He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We have multiple openings within our Mammals team for Casual Zoo Keepers to join Auckland Zoo. These roles require a science-based approach to animal husbandry and welfare, supporting the delivery of exceptional visitor experiences and demonstrating a strong commitment to the conservation of wildlife and wild places. Successful candidates will understand the purpose of a modern zoo and the vital role animals play in achieving positive outcomes for communities and conservation. They will actively promote evidence-based animal care practices while contributing to the development and delivery of initiatives aligned with the Animal Care & Conservation department and the Zoo’s broader strategic commitments.
Casual Trainee Keeper – Multi Team Casual:
A Trainee Keeper (Multi-Team) at Auckland Zoo plays a hands-on role in supporting the daily care, husbandry, and welfare of animals while contributing to the development of engaging, innovative exhibits that enhance the visitor experience. The role also supports the delivery of Auckland Zoo’s conservation messages both on-site and in the wider community, with opportunities to participate in field conservation projects in New Zealand and internationally.
Keeper – Multi Team Casual:
A Keeper at Auckland Zoo is responsible for the daily husbandry, management, and overall welfare of the Zoo’s animal collection, ensuring the highest standards of care. They play a key role in developing and maintaining innovative, high-quality exhibits that enhance the visitor experience, while actively delivering the Zoo’s conservation message both on-site and in the wider community. Keepers also contribute to field conservation projects in New Zealand and internationally, applying specialist knowledge and advanced animal husbandry skills to meet the professional standards required across all key responsibilities.
Note: these positions will be required to work weekends and public holidays.
