Job Description

Professor Zhihao Zhang is looking for undergraduate and graduate research assistants to work on projects that involve large language models, human decision-making, and quantitative modeling of choice behavior.

Qualifications

Math and Statistics -- Strong foundation in statistics and probability. Good intuition for probabilistic reasoning and geometry.

Programming -- Proficiency in Python. Some experience with pandas and Git. Experience with open-source LLMs or numerical optimization is a plus.

General -- Sensitive to subtle conceptual distinctions and comfortable thinking carefully about what an empirical result actually means. Curiosity about LLMs, human behavior, decision-making, or related topics is especially welcome. Strong work ethics and good communication skills are mandatory.

UVA undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Position is open to students in computer science, data science, business, accounting, economics, social sciences, humanities, statistics, math, or other disciplines with strong programming and statistical skills.

Hourly pay rate depends on level of education. Students pursing a:

  • 4-year degree: $16.00/hour

  • MA/MS Degree: $22.00/hour

  • Ph.D. Degree: $25/hour

Positions offers 10 hours/week. This position is ONLY open to UVA students.
