The Opportunity
Downer Energy & Utilities is seeking an experienced Zero Harm Advisor to join our team supporting operations within the Barrow Island business. Reporting to the Superintendent or Project Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of our Health, Safety and Environment management systems while providing practical onsite guidance to ensure all activities are performed safely and in compliance with legislative, client and company requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Provide day to day safety advice and support to site management, supervisors and employees.
- Promote a strong safety culture through coaching, mentoring and proactive engagement.
- Conduct site inspections, audits and safety observations to identify hazards and risks.
- Assist with the development and review of Safe Work Method Statements, Job Hazard Analyses and risk assessments.
- Support compliance with WHS legislation, Australian Standards and client requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Facilitate toolbox talks, pre start meetings and safety training sessions.
- Monitor compliance with permits, PPE requirements and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, reporting and statistics.
- Support emergency preparedness and response activities.
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors and regulatory bodies where required.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
- Diploma in Work Health and Safety highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in a safety advisory capacity with extensive industry experience.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and risk management principles.
- Ability to influence and engage stakeholders across all levels of an organisation.
- Practical and solutions focused approach to safety.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail with accurate reporting capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Valid construction related certifications and safety training.
