Job Category: EducationCypress Hills Local Development Corporation has openings for part-time Youth Workers in the United Community Center Elementary After School program.

The Youth Worker at Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation Inc is responsible for supporting the development and well-being of young individuals within the community. This role involves engaging with youth to foster positive relationships, providing guidance, and facilitating programs that promote personal growth, education, and social skills.

This position is hourly for 15-17 hours per week, Monday - Friday, and typically occurs between the hours of 2:00 - 6:00 pm.

Principal Duties

  • Assist the group leader in planning, implementing, and documenting successful educational, recreation, youth leadership, community service, and arts activities with school-aged children.
  • Proactively adhere to policies and procedures, making the safety and care of children your primary focus.
  • Build a positive relationship with each after-school participant in your care, and foster positive connections between participants. Actively engage with children at all times to foster the positive development of each child and the group.
  • Conduct yourself as a professional and representative of the agency with school staff, parents, children, and anyone else with whom you come into contact in your role.
  • Effectively manage the assigned group. Maintain and enforce progressive discipline policy.
  • Contribute to the cohesive and effective functioning of the staff team in your assigned group and the program.
  • Assist in enrollment, recording, and submitting daily attendance records, and any other required documents to the Director.
  • Inspect on a daily basis all facilities, equipment, and supplies, and be sure all are accounted for and put away at the end of each day.
  • Inspect the classroom at the beginning of each session and at the end of each session, and provide Supervisors with a daily room check-in log.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of staff or member development, including weekly supervision, weekly team meetings, pre-service training, and at least 15 hours of additional training during the school year.
  • Other assignments, as requested.

Position Requirements

  • At least a Junior in High School.
  • 1 year of experience working with children in a child care or education setting.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish/Bengali/Creole French) a plus.

Compensation

  • $17-$18 per hour based on educational and experience level.
  • Access to professional development provided by CHLDC and/or external providers.
  • All part-time employees are eligible to participate in the agency’s 403b Tax Deferred Retirement Investment Plan.
  • In addition, all part-time employees are eligible to participate in the agency’s Commuter Flexible Spending Plan.
  • CHLDC also follows the New York City Earned Sick Time Act.
