Job Description

ABOUT US

Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre (WSMRC) is a leading community
organisation dedicated to supporting newly arrived migrants, refugees and
culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities across Western Sydney.

For more than 40 years, WSMRC has worked alongside communities to
strengthen settlement outcomes, build resilience and create opportunities for
social and economic participation. We deliver a broad range of integrated,
person-centred services that complement our core settlement programs, including
family and children's services, youth programs, disability and health supports,
services for older people, community leadership initiatives, and information
and advisory services.

At WSMRC, we believe communities thrive when people feel safe, connected
and empowered. That's why we co-design and deliver services in partnership with
the communities we serve, drawing on lived experience, cultural knowledge and
genuine collaboration to create meaningful and lasting impact.

When you join WSMRC, you become part of a purpose-driven organisation
committed to equity, cultural safety, innovation and making a real difference
in people's lives.

When you join WSMRC, you join a purpose-driven organisation committed to equity,
cultural safety and meaningful impact.

VISION, MISSION, VALUES

Our vision is for a diverse and inclusive Australia where everyone can belong, contribute, and
thrive.

Our mission is to support and champion diverse communities to become better informed, connected, and empowered.

We value:

  • COLLABORATION We are stronger together than we are apart. Through respectful communication and meaningful partnerships, we work towards shared goals to deliver person-centred, best-practice services.
  • TRUST We value integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical practices as the foundation for all our relationships and interactions.
  • EQUITY We are dedicated to promoting fairness and inclusivity, ensuring equitable access to opportunities and support services, and cultivating a safe environment that embraces diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • EXCELLENCE We are committed to delivering the highest standards of performance and quality outcomes. We strive for continuous improvement and innovation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Youth Worker to join the Western Sydney Migrant Resource Centre's Youth Services Team on a part-time (4 days per week), fixed-term maternity leave contract until mid-June 2027, with the possibility of extension.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about empowering young people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds, including newly arrived migrants and refugees, to reach their full potential.

Working within our Youth Program, you will support young people aged 12–24 through individual casework, group programs, workshops, community engagement activities and school-based initiatives. Every day will provide the opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping young people build confidence, develop life skills, strengthen their connections and successfully
navigate education, employment and community life.

This is more than a Youth Worker role—it's an opportunity to be part of a passionate team that is creating positive change across Western Sydney while growing your own professional skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

This position is classified as a Social and Community Services Employee under the SCHADS Award, starting Level 3.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide person-centred casework and support to young people from culturally diverse backgrounds living with disability and, where appropriate, their families and carers.
  • Deliver engaging workshops, group programs and community activities that build confidence, independence and life skills.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with local services and community organisations to improve access to support and opportunities for participants.
  • Liaise with young people, families and service providers to identify needs, provide referrals and coordinate appropriate supports.
  • Promote the program through community engagement activities, events and digital platforms to increase awareness and participation.
  • Maintain accurate client records, case notes, reports and program data in line with organisational and funding requirements.
  • Monitor participant progress, evaluate program outcomes and contribute to continuous service improvement through feedback and reporting.
  • Identify and respond appropriately to risks, ensuring the safety, wellbeing and safeguarding of young people at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers and students to deliver high-quality services and achieve shared program goals.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings and community events to strengthen practice and support organisational initiatives.

ABOUT YOU

You will bring

  • A relevant qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, Disability, Psychology or a related field; or equivalent experience in the community services or disability sector.
  • Experience supporting young people, preferably from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to support young people living with disability and their families using person-centred and strengths-based approaches.
  • Experience designing and facilitating workshops, group activities and community programs that engage and empower young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong organisational, administrative and time management skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities.
  • Well-developed computer skills, including experience using client management systems and electronic databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • A current NSW Working with Children Check, National Police Check (or willingness to obtain), and a current NSW Driver Licence.

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience working in the youth, disability, mental health or settlement sector.
  • Knowledge of local community services and referral pathways.
  • Experience working with CALD communities.
  • Ability to speak a community language.
  • Experience supervising volunteers or students or coordinating community events and activities.

WHY WORK WITH US

We are a purpose-driven organisation grounded in empathy, cultural respect and community
leadership. Our team brings diverse lived experiences and works collaboratively to design programs shaped by the people we serve.

While we operate in the not-for-profit sector, we offer meaningful career experience, real responsibility, SCHADS Award conditions and access to salary packaging to increase your take-home pay.

If you are motivated by impact, equity and human connection, WSMRC offers more than employment - it offers purpose.
