Youth Support Workers – Dunedin/Ōtepoti

Full Time & Part Time Opportunities

Make a genuine difference in a young person’s life

We’re seeking a compassionate and capable Support Workers to provide one-on-one support for a young woman with physical challenges, complex behaviours, and significant mental health needs within our Dunedin Youth Services.

This is a hands-on, relational role where your calm presence and practical skills will truly matter. You’ll provide active support to help her build independence, strengthen daily routines, and connect positively with her community.

Mealtimes are an important part of her culture and identity, so confidence in cooking, meal planning, and supporting healthy eating habits is essential. Creating positive, structured, and culturally affirming mealtimes will be a key part of this role.

About the role | He kōrero whakamārama mō tēnei tūranga

You will provide structured, active support (not just supervision), support emotional wellbeing using trauma-informed practice, encourage independence in daily living skills, and help build meaningful community connections. You’ll work as part of a supportive, values-driven team.

Experience in positive behaviour support and working with complex behaviours is highly valued.

What you will bring | Ngā pūkenga mō tēnei tūranga

  • Experience supporting people with complex mental health needs

  • Understanding of strengths-based, trauma-informed practice

  • Experience in positive behaviour support

  • Confidence with cooking and supporting healthy mealtimes

  • Patience, resilience, and strong communication skills

You must also hold:

· A Full NZ Driver Licence

· A First Aid Certificate (or be willing to obtain)

· Be eligible to work in Aotearoa New Zealand,

· And be available for at least one weekend shift per week.
