Required Skills

Competitive candidates will have one or more of the following criteria:

Master of Arts/Master of Science degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Clinical Psychology
OR
3 or more years of relevant experience, such as in organizational development/capacity building, social work for youth, or experience serving youth organizations

Desired Skills

All candidates who meet the required skills are encouraged to apply. Additional skills that may make you a more competitive candidate include:

Experience designing and facilitating training workshops for youth and adult learners, conducting literacy training, and working with neurodivergent students.

Living Conditions

Volunteers live in standalone houses, apartments, or within family home structures that are a short bus ride away from their work site.

Activities

Develop learning tools to make literacy and numeracy sessions more effective.
Facilitate sessions on social skills, remedial literacy, and numeracy for youth.
Build a mentoring program for junior and senior 4-H student leaders.
Facilitate leadership development workshops for 4-H students.
Promote volunteerism through a summer program.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as extracurricular activities.

Training

After a 3-week orientation on topics such as health and safety and details of the work assignment, you will move to an urban community where you will work with the partner and your community to assess the local needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Dominica will equip you with Creole language resources and you may work with a local tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
