About the Role

We currently have an exciting ongoing part-time opportunity (0.6 EFT) available to join our headspace team as a Youth Mental Health Worker.

In this role, you will deliver a range of evidence-based interventions and youth-friendly models that support early help-seeking and provide seamless access to services across the headspace four core platforms: mental health; physical and sexual health; alcohol and other drugs; and vocational and educational assistance.

You will manage a client caseload and provide high-quality, culturally appropriate, and family-inclusive services to young people and their families and friends. The focus of the role is to build knowledge, skills, resilience, and overall mental health and wellbeing outcomes through practical, strengths-based support.

Key aspects of the role include undertaking psychosocial assessments and goal setting, facilitating access to internal and external services, and engaging young people through a mix of counselling, group work, care coordination, family work, and brief interventions. You will also deliver psychological therapy within your scope of practice and provide interim support for young people awaiting higher intensity services.

Beyond direct service delivery, you will contribute to community awareness, mental health literacy, and youth participation activities, while building strong relationships with local stakeholders and service partners to support integrated care.

This role requires a solid understanding of relevant practice frameworks and legislation relating to young people, along with a commitment to ongoing professional development in areas such as risk assessment, brief intervention, and single session models.

If you are motivated, adaptable, and passionate about improving outcomes for young people, we’d love to hear from you.

Do your skills include:

  • Knowledge of mental health as it relates to young people and discipline-specific intervention options for young people experiencing high prevalence mental health problems.
  • Experience in developing and delivering group programs or social connection activities with young people.
  • Experience working with young people in a health, youth or clinical setting including demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive assessments, identify and manage risk appropriate to role, and utilise various therapeutic modalities.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the appropriate legislation, case management practice, and the ability to adhere to policy and procedures.

Are your credentials:

  • A minimum qualification of a sector recognised and accredited Bachelor of Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Nurse or Counsellor. Qualifications must be approved by recognised professional bodies: g. AASW, AHPRA, ACA, APS etc. Eligibility to pursue accredited pathways is highly desired.
  • Minimum of 2 years working experience in a mental health-focused environment, preferably with young people.
  • A current Drivers Licence
