SUMMARY

The Youth Enrichment and Engagement Assistant plays a vital role in advancing Community Education's mission by supporting the coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of site-based enrichment programming within a secondary setting. This position serves as the primary connector between students, school staff, families, and community partners, creating a dynamic, student-centered environment that fosters academic success, social-emotional growth, and leadership development. Ideal for individuals passionate about youth engagement and relationship-building.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Support the Basement Program Mission to: Provide a fun, safe enriching experience in a respectful and nurturing environment and promote life-long learning skills in all students and youth during out of school time.
  • Plans, develops, implements, supervises, and evaluates diversified enrichment activities for youth.
  • Manages daily functions of registrations, cancellations, attendance and associated communications with participants and instructors.
  • Support the Program Goals by:
  1. Providing opportunities for youth to succeed both academically and socially through the collaboration of the school and community resources.
  2. Providing a secure and inclusive environment in which all youth may explore the world around them.
  3. Providing opportunities from which all students learn to make choices that contribute to both their growth in life-long learning skills and their development into becoming respectful and responsible adults.
  4. Working with external vendors to provide youth enrichment opportunities
  5. Supporting families by connecting them with community resources.
  6. Fostering the individual growth and development of all youth.
  7. Providing children with new experiences and involvement in their community.
  8. Leading engaging enrichment activities
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with families, staff, and community partners while maintaining confidentiality regarding students, staff, and families.
  • Implement a philosophy of education and administration that is compatible with Robbinsdale Area Schools missions.
  • Work with other programs regarding shared space.
  • Prepare snack counts accurately and complete any required food service forms.
  • Supporting The Basement program development and operations before school, after school, non-school days and vacation days.
  • Developing and implementing an effective and enriching anti-bias, inclusive environment and curriculum according to The Basement Mission.
  • Maintaining a fiscally sound site budget by recruiting students and families to
  • participate in The Basement programming.
  • The overall supervision of students and staffing ratio and adherence to DHS regulations.
  • Assuring that guidance policies are followed for all students regardless of ability or special needs.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 60 college credits and 3 years' experience working in education, youth development or related field OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • Successful experience working with adolescent youth ages 11-14 years in groups.
  • Experience supporting students with varying abilities, behavioral needs, social-emotional needs, or individualized support plans.
  • Ability to plan, organize, adapt, and lead engaging enrichment activities for middle school students.
  • Evidence of strong written and oral communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in conflict resolution, crisis management skills.
  • Commitment to multicultural, gender fair and disability awareness.
  • Ability to encourage shared leadership, team building and collaborative working relationships within the site, building and overall program.
  • Ability to build positive relationships and communicate professionally with students, families, staff, school partners, and community partners.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid Minnesota State Driver's License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree or may involve sitting most of the time with long periods of computer work and heavy phone usage.
