As a Youth Counselor, you will help create a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment for youth while gaining valuable experience in mental health, behavioral support, trauma-informed care, residential treatment, social services, psychology, counseling, and child/adolescent development.

No experience required — paid training provided. Whether you are starting your career or exploring work in social work, psychology, counseling, education, juvenile justice, child welfare, healthcare, or human services, this role provides hands-on experience and opportunities for advancement.


Pay & Benefits

Starting Pay: $19.23–$22.12/hour
Sign-On Bonus: $5,000

Shift Differentials:
• +$1.50/hour (Afternoons)
• +$1.00/hour (Midnights/Weekends)

What You’ll Do

As a Youth Counselor, you will:

  • Provide direct care, supervision, mentoring, and behavioral support for youth ages 10–18
  • Build positive, trusting relationships while supporting emotional, behavioral, and mental health growth
  • Create and maintain a safe, structured, trauma-informed, therapeutic environment
  • Teach coping skills, emotional regulation, independent living skills, and positive decision-making
  • Support youth with behavioral challenges, emotional needs, and treatment goals
  • Model healthy boundaries, consistency, and positive communication
  • Collaborate with a supportive, multidisciplinary team

  • Stabilization Program – Short-term safety, assessment, and support
  • 35-Day Evaluation Program – Behavioral and mental health assessment and treatment planning
  • Intensive Residential Treatment (IRT) – Therapeutic intervention and behavioral support
  • Residential Treatment Cottage – Strength-based residential care for youth with emotional and behavioral needs
  • Teens in Transition Program – Independent living and life-skills development

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Valid Minnesota driver’s license
  • High school diploma or GED

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Post-secondary education or experience in Human Services, Behavioral Health, Psychology, Law Enforcement, or related fields
  • Experience working with youth, residential programs, or direct care roles
