JOB SUMMARY: The New Settlement, YouthBuild Youth Advisor plays a vital role in providing guidance, mentorship, and support to young people as they work toward their personal, educational, and career goals. This position requires someone who is passionate about youth development, experienced in case management, and committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment.
Job Duties include but not limited to:
Youth Engagement & Support
Conduct intake interviews and provide one-on-one and group counseling to program participants.
Build strong, supportive relationships with youth, holding them accountable for their stated goals through consistent check-ins and task-oriented coaching.
Serve as a trusted advocate for youth, offering crisis support and acting as a safety net when needed.
Provide ongoing support to alumni, as appropriate.
Maintain professionalism and boundaries at all times with engaging with participants, staff and community partners.
Program Facilitation & Outreach
Facilitate weekly peer group meetings with core participants.
Design and lead engaging life-skills workshops tailored to the needs of youth.
Conduct outreach to local youth who may benefit from the program.
Follow up with workshop participants and collaborate with partner organizations to ensure access to necessary services and resources.
Partnership & Collaboration
Strengthen and maintain relationships with partner organizations that offer services in education, health care, job training and placement, housing, and the justice system.
Represent the program in professional settings, networks, and staff development trainings provided through our networks and partnerships, representing the program, as appropriate.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate records, including case notes and participant data, in accordance with program standards.
Participate in staff meetings and contribute to program development and evaluation.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
A.A. in a related field preferred
2–3 years of direct experience working with older teens and young adults in a community-based, non-mandated setting.
Demonstrated experience in counseling and case management, particularly with youth who have experienced trauma.
Deep commitment to fostering a welcoming and accountable program environment where young people are held to high expectations and supported through structured, holistic, and educational programming.
Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine passion for helping young people thrive.
Bilingual (Spanish-English) skills are a strong plus.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must be cleared and maintain clearance throughout duration of employment by NYC DOE fingerprinting process.
Summer Camp and After School Employees must be cleared and maintain clearance throughout duration of employment by NYS DOH and DOE fingerprinting screening, NYS Central Registrar Background Check, 3 Reference checks, Staff Exclusion List (SEL), and must provide a physical examination with updated TB test.

Employment is at will and employees will undergo 45 and 90 day check ins during their 90 day probationary period.
