What we want
The Youth Adventure Program (YAP) Program Aide oversees and participates in daily operations of the Youth Adventure Program summer camp, hosted by the Department of Educational Psychology with Texas A&M University. Duties consist of, but not limited to, facilitating camp schedule, including meals, activities, and events, utilize team building and communication skills within a summer camp environment, supervise adolescents within campus, community, and residential settings, board in dorm while camp is in session, work alongside counseling staff, report to camp manager, and other duties as required.

Note: Stay/board in dorm while camp is in session
Major/Essential Duties of Job
Oversee and participate in daily operations of the Youth Adventure Program
Facilitate camp schedule, including meals, activities, and events
Utilize team building and communication skills within a summer camp environment
Supervise adolescents within campus, community, and residential settings
Stay in dorm 24/7 while camp is in session
Work alongside counseling staff
Report to camp manager
Collaborate with social media coordinator
Transport passengers using a motor vehicle (van)
Other duties as required.
Occasional Duties of Job
Lift and carry heavy equipment
Enforce behavior code of conduct for all participants
Attend to physical, psychological, or emotional ailments or adjustments that arise amongst participants while camp is in session
Qualifications
Required Licensures, Education, and Experience
Bachelor’s degree OR current graduate/professional student status in Education, Communication, Psychology, STEM, Interdisciplinary Studies, or related field
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with adolescents or young adults in educational, leadership, mentoring, camp, or university settings
Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and group facilitation skills
Demonstrated ability to professionally communicate with students, families, faculty, and staff in a fast-paced camp or educational environment
Ability to supervise and engage students within campus, community, and residential environments
Valid and unexpired driver’s license to operate motor vehicle (van)
Must be 21 years of age to operate a motor vehicle (van)
Preferred Licensures, Education, and Experience
Recent graduate of Texas A&M University
Previous participation in educational outreach, youth enrichment, leadership development, or summer camp programs
Experience mentoring, advising, teaching, tutoring, presenting, or facilitating programs for adolescents or prospective college students
Demonstrated leadership experience in student organizations, educational initiatives, outreach programs, or community engagement activities
Excellent public speaking, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to positively represent Texas A&M University and assist students in navigating the college transition process
Experience working with gifted, high-achieving, or academically motivated youth
Bilingual speaker
Physical Requirements
Physical activity such as walking and strenuous exercise may be part of the job as well as spending time outside in the heat
