Job Description

Position: Young 5's Teacher- To begin in 25-26 school year

The goal of this position is to help students learn subject matter and skills at appropriate levels that will contribute to their development as mature, capable, and responsible individuals

Role and Responsibilities

  1. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at times designated
  2. Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students based on the District's educational philosophy, goals, objectives and individual student plan.
  3. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  4. Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation.
  5. Establish and maintain standards of appropriate student behavior.
  6. Employ a variety of instructional strategies and media which meet the needs and capabilities of the students.
  7. Evaluate student performance on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  8. Refer students with special needs to the appropriate District specialist and participate on committees related to individual student planning.
  9. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, self, equipment, materials, and facilities in order to provide an ongoing, safe classroom environment.
  10. Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
  11. Assist as directed in the daily operations of the school.
  12. Be available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when needed.
  13. Plan and supervise duties for teacher aides and volunteers.
  14. Maintain and improve competence through participation in professional training
  15. Attend all staff meetings and serve on committees as requested.
  16. Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  1. Minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college institution.
  2. Valid Michigan teaching certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public School District for this position

The noise level in the work environment will vary and can range from soft to loud. Often the noise level in the work environment will be moderate to loud. The employee is required to interact with students, staff, parents/guardians and occasionally with the public. At times, the employee may be directly responsible for the safety and well-being of students.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the requirements of the District and state law.

Terms of employment

Salary and work year to be determined by local contract.
