Peninsula Community Center, a ministry of Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC), builds community by providing personal, healthy, and meaningful connections through aquatics, fitness, tennis, and community programming. PCC is a vibrant and forward-thinking church located in Redwood City, dedicated to serving our community and making a positive impact through our outreach programs including our Community Center. PCC employs over 150 seasonal and part-time staff to support various community efforts. PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE

As a Yoga Instructor, you will lead safe, engaging, and welcoming yoga classes for PCC members of varying ages, abilities, and experience levels. We are looking for instructors who can create thoughtful classes that help participants build strength, flexibility, balance, body awareness, and confidence in their practice.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

The Yoga Instructor is part of a collaborative and supportive fitness team, working closely with the Programs Director and Fitness Coordinator. Instructors build positive relationships with members and guests while creating an environment where participants feel comfortable, supported, and appropriately challenged in their practice.

SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead safe, effective, and engaging yoga classes appropriate for the advertised class format and participant level.
  • Provide clear verbal instruction and effective cueing throughout class.
  • Demonstrate poses and movements safely while providing appropriate modifications and progressions.
  • Create an inclusive environment that welcomes participants with varying levels of yoga experience and physical ability.
  • Plan thoughtful, well-paced classes that align with the goals and description of the class.
  • Encourage proper alignment, body awareness, and safe movement throughout each practice.
  • Prepare music, props, and other materials needed for class and leave the studio clean and organized.
  • Build positive relationships with members by providing encouragement, education, and excellent customer service.
  • Communicate with the Programs Director regarding scheduling, substitutions, member feedback, and program needs.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled classes and communicate promptly when coverage is needed.
  • Participate in substitute teaching opportunities when available.
  • Represent PCC with professionalism, positivity, and a collaborative, team-first attitude.
  • Perform other fitness-related duties and projects as assigned by the Programs Director.

PROFILE SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated knowledge of yoga fundamentals, alignment, and safe movement.
  • Clear and confident verbal cueing skills.
  • Ability to recognize and provide modifications and options for participants with different abilities and experience levels.
  • Warm, welcoming teaching style and ability to build connections with participants.
  • Comfortable leading and managing a group independently.
  • Commitment to safety, continued learning, and providing a high-quality member experience.

WORKWEEK

  • Part-time position, typically averaging 1–2 classes per week (average 1 hour/class), with opportunities for additional classes and substitute coverage.
  • Flexible scheduling based on instructor availability and program needs and instructor availability.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

  • Current yoga instructor certification from an approved 200 hour yoga teacher training program required.
  • CPR/AED certification required.
  • Minimum age: 18 years or older.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift up to 30+ pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently.
  • Position requires physical ability to demonstrate exercises, lift light to moderate weights, and remain active for extended periods during classes.
  • Ability to walk around 16-acre campus with ease, including stairs, ensuring all areas of the program are properly supervised and safe.
  • Must adhere to PCC’s Safe Church policies, including mandatory background check.
