Job Description

Title: Yoga Instructor (Independent Contractor)

Reports to: Athletic Director

Schedule/travel: Academic year, Independent Contractor position. A typical schedule will include four afternoons per week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Approximately 3:15 p.m. arrival with class taking place from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Compensation: $80/session

Yoga Instructor (Independent Contractor) leads afternoon yoga programs to support Kent School's athletic offerings. The instructor will provide engaging, age-appropriate yoga instruction that promotes physical wellness, flexibility, strength, balance, mindfulness, and stress management in a supportive and inclusive environment. The program should be appropriate for students with a wide range of experience, from beginners to more advanced participants, and foster a positive atmosphere that encourages participation and personal growth.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and lead safe, engaging yoga sessions for students in grades 9–12.
  • Adapt instruction to accommodate varying experience and ability levels.
  • Supervise and maintain a safe environment for up to 20 students.
  • Encourage participation while promoting proper technique and injury prevention.
  • Arrive prepared and ready to begin each session on time.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appropriate boundaries with students.

Schedule:

  • Four afternoons per week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  • Approximately 3:15 p.m. arrival with class taking place from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Each session will last at least one hour.
  • Program runs throughout the academic year, beginning in September, with the exception of school exam periods.

School will provide:

  • Dedicated activity space when indoors. Outdoors when possible.
  • Yoga mats, blocks, and other equipment.
  • Music equipment, if desired.

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching yoga to groups, preferably including adolescents.
  • Ability to engage students with varying levels of yoga experience.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Reliable, responsible, and comfortable supervising high school students independently.
  • Current yoga instructor certification preferred.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of post-offer, pre-employment criminal background checks and drug test.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
  • Work is performed on a smoke-free campus.
