Tangentyere
Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public
Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise
activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town
Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

Tangentyere Council deliver a
range of Youth, Families & Community Safety (YFCS) services across Town
Camps and Alice Springs, supporting children, young people, families, and
communities through the delivery of daytime and after-hours services focussed
on recreation, diversion, out of home care, community safety and family support
programs.

With services running after
hours, seven days per week, and during school holidays, the Youth Support Officer
assists with the delivery of safe, engaging and culturally appropriate recreation
activities for children and young people aged 6–18 years.

Working under the direction
of the Senior Youth Worker and Team Leader, the role supports the delivery of
youth activities, assists with supervision of participants and contributes to
maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for children and young people
accessing Tangentyere Youth Services.

The successful candidate will
have some experience working with children and young people in a recreation
setting, good communication skills and understanding of strength based, and
trauma informed youth work practices.

The Youth Support Officer will
work as part of a Youth Services team to support after hours youth programs
operating across various Town Camps and the 3 Brown Street Youth Service and
requires availability to work afternoons, evenings and weekends.

As part of your role, you
will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are
vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any
concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when
it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and
up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place
or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities

  • ·Assist in the planning and delivery of
    activities for young people aged 6–18, actively supporting their participation
    and positive engagement.
  • ·Efficiently manage the setup and pack-down of
    program spaces, including the preparation of materials, equipment, and meals or
    snacks as required.
  • ·Maintain accurate basic records, including
    attendance sheets, incident reports, and other necessary documentation to
    ensure service compliance.
  • ·Actively participate in team meetings,
    briefings, and training sessions to support program cohesion and individual
    skill growth.
  • ·Assist with achieving quality management
    objectives across the organisation.
  • ·Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives
    across the organisation.
  • ·Assist with achieving compliance objectives
    across the organisation.
  • ·Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

  • ·Previous experience working
    with children and or young people, preferably with Aboriginal people
    and communities.
  • ·Qualification or experience in Sport and
    Recreation, Youth Work, Education, Community Development, or relevant area.
  • ·Good communication skills and demonstrated ability
    to develop rapport and support with young people.
  • ·Demonstrated skills that align with sport, recreation,
    arts, music, technology or other relevant to the delivery of engaging youth
    activities.
  • ·Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with
    Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3)
    vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

  • ·First Aid certified or willingness to obtain
  • ·Therapeutic Crisis Intervention trained or understanding
    of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and strengths-based approaches.
