The Fleet Operations Intern will support the General Equipment and Asset Management team in the daily management and optimization of TTX’s railcar fleet. This role provides exposure to fleet distribution, maintenance planning, asset lifecycle management, and operational efficiency. The intern will learn key principles of equipment utilization and will be encouraged to contribute ideas that enhance fleet performance and support departmental goals.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with the daily distribution of TTX’s general merchandise railcar fleet to owner railroads.
Support the allocation of railcars to repair facilities to meet maintenance, modification, and disposition schedules.
Help ensure TTX maximizes recovery value for surplus or retiring assets and scrap materials generated from railcar parts.
Produce weekly and monthly internal and external reports related to fleet activity and performance.
Communicate with railroads and shippers to support effective customer service.
Review and audit TTX-paid storage locations to ensure accuracy and cost control.
Collaborate with cross functional TTX teams to build a comprehensive understanding of company operations.
Help manage the General Equipment Fleet railcar pools, and perform other duties as assigned.
Compilation of reports, meeting materials, and presentation documents for industry meetings.
Internship Goals:

Exposure to Class 1 and other railroads to better understand business operations.
Build a working knowledge of internal processes and how they affect various business areas.
Strengthen professional communication skills and develop effective business relationships.
Qualifications:
Current student pursuing a degree in Business, Computer Science, Transportation, Engineering, or a related field.
Effective attention to detail and analytical skills.
Effective multi-tasking and communication skills.
Eagerness to learn new things and take initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in MS Office tools (Access, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat and MS Visio a plus but not required.
