About the Role

The primary purpose of the Yard Leading Hand is to provide hands-on leadership and supervision of yard and transport operations, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient movement of cargo and vehicles.

The role is accountable for day-to-day execution of transport activities, including load preparation, vehicle coordination, and dispatch readiness, while delivering on-the-job leadership, mentoring, and support to drivers and yard personnel.

The position also supports the execution of oversize and over mass (heavy haul) movements where required, ensuring compliance with relevant procedures and regulatory requirements.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide frontline supervision of yard and transport operations, ensuring workflow is efficient and priorities are met
  • Coordinate daily activities including vehicle movements, load staging, dispatch sequencing, and yard traffic management
  • Allocate tasks and provide direction to drivers and yard personnel
  • Act as a key interface between drivers, supervisors, and operations teams
  • Identify and resolve operational issues in a timely manner
  • Participate in loading, unloading, and securing of cargo across trailers, containers, and transport equipment
  • Ensure compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR) obligations across all transport activities
  • Handle, store, and prepare Dangerous Goods in accordance with legislative and company requirements
  • Perform all tasks in accordance with Qube Safety Health & Sustainability policies and promote safe work practices
  • Maintain effective communication with operations, drivers, maintenance, and clients

Qualifications and Experience

  • Previous experience in a transport, logistics, or yard environment (Essential)
  • Experience in a leading hand or supervisory role (Desirable)
  • Current Australian Driver’s License (Car)
  • Current Forklift License (LF) (Essential)
  • Working knowledge of Chain of Responsibility (CoR)
  • Working knowledge of Load Restraint principles
  • Exposure to oversize/over mass or heavy haul operations (Desirable)
  • Dangerous Goods awareness (Desirable)
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
