Job Description

Waste Connections is hiring a Yard Jockey to join our team in Elkhart, IN!

We are looking for a dependable, safety-focused individual to safely move, position, and manage equipment within our facility while helping maintain a clean and efficient operation. Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely move, position, and stage trailers, containers, and equipment throughout the yard and transfer station.
  • Direct incoming and outgoing traffic to ensure safe and efficient site operations.
  • Perform daily inspections of yard equipment and report any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist with loading, staging, and coordinating trailer movements to support operational needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional-looking facility, including litter control and general housekeeping.
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including weed trimming and yard upkeep.
  • Climb and tarp rail cars as required.
  • Operate light equipment such as skid steers and other site equipment.
  • Perform basic facility maintenance, painting, and janitorial duties as needed.
  • Follow all company safety policies and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and team members to promote safe and efficient operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of experience operating trucks, trailers, yard equipment, or working in an industrial, transportation, waste, or similar environment.
  • Previous Yard Jockey, Spotter, CDL, heavy equipment, or transfer station experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, climb, bend, and perform physical labor throughout the day.
  • Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to read, understand, and enforce safety requirements.
  • Dependable attendance and a stable work history.
