What We Are Looking For
The Yard Associate and Forklift Operator (telehandler) plays a key role in supporting daily operations at TGU’s wholesale yard locations. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high‑quality service for customers purchasing bulk materials. The position does not manage direct reports but is highly collaborative with yard leadership, equipment operators, and customer service teams. Success in the first 12 months includes mastering safe equipment operation, maintaining accurate inventory, delivering excellent customer service, and consistently supporting a clean, organized, and efficient yard environment.

• Operate forklifts (telehandler) in warehouse and off‑road environments to safely load and unload materials.
• Comply with proper operation and maintenance procedures for all assigned equipment.
• Perform daily equipment walk‑around inspections and maintain preventive maintenance logs.
• Operate heavy equipment for 8+ hours per day in all weather and ground conditions.
• Maintain general housekeeping of equipment, including cleaning and lubrication of components.
• Travel occasionally to different project sites within the Houston area.
• Gain in‑depth knowledge of TGU’s product line to support customer needs.
• Manage inventory and perform quality control checks on materials.
• Maintain a neat, clean, and orderly work area at all times.
• Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform physical activities including climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.
• Perform other duties as assigned or needed.
Required Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as an equipment operator.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability and willingness to work year‑round in all seasons.
• Reliable transportation to and from worksites.
• Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
Preferred
Qualifications
• Mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
• General understanding of hydraulics.
• Experience in yard operations, landscape supply, or related industries.
What to Expect
This role involves hands‑on, outdoor work in a fast‑paced wholesale yard environment. You can expect daily interaction with customers, equipment operation for extended periods, and physical activity throughout the shift. Work conditions include exposure to weather, dust, noise, and moving equipment. The schedule may require flexibility during peak seasons, and occasional travel between Houston‑area sites may be needed. Success in this role means consistently delivering safe equipment operation, accurate inventory handling, and excellent customer service while supporting a clean and efficient yard.
