Job Description

The YMCA Y-CAP Program Advisor is an early intervention/prevention program for students that would benefit from social emotional learning wraparound services. The Y-CAP Program Advisor will assist the Director of Prevention Programs with daily program operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. To be a role model for Y-CAP youth utilizing the YMCA ideal of “Spirit, Mind and Body,” along with reflecting the character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

2. To coordinate and interact in activities with Y-CAP enrolled youth and their families using prosocial and positive redirection techniques.

3. To monitor and supervise Y-CAP youth during programming time.

4. To work with other Y-CAP staff in setting up meetings and program schedules during program hours of 8am-9:30am and 2pm – 6pm Monday thru Friday.

5. To assist with the implementation of Y-CAP programs, delivery of value sessions and other community programming.

6. To assist the Director of Prevention Programs with volunteer recruitment and management.

7. Employee will accurately report work time via approved YMCA Clocking method: personal electronic device, YMCA Site Phone, YMCA iPad or time sheet.

8. To assist with record collection and individual case management.

9. To maintain a high level of commitment to the youth and families that has been entrusted to Y-CAP.

10. Work in partnership with Drive The Dream (DTD) United Way referral services for children and families.

11. Access to reliable transportation is required for visits to YMCA Centers, schools and communities programming sites.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

1. The Y-CAP Program Advisor should have a minimum of high school diploma.

2. Previous YMCA experience, experience working with at-risk youth, and/or experience working with youth and teens is preferred.

3. Minimum age requirement of 18. Must be able to work alone with youth. (15-25 hrs. per week)

4. Must be available to work afternoons and evenings. (2pm-5pm)

5. Must have reliable transportation as programming takes place at various schools Monday-Friday.

WORK SCHEDULE:

This part-time position will average 20 - 25 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work the afternoon shift from 2 pm - 5 pm.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: ? Frequent climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping. ? Ability to respond quickly and swiftly to emergency situations. ? Occasionally lift up 35 pounds using proper technique ? Ability to travel to various site locations in the local area on a daily basis. ? Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise youth activities.
