Job Description

We are seeking a motivated Software Engineer to join a project focused on transforming robotic hand rehabilitation for post-stroke patients. The role involves developing immersive VR/AR environments, integrating robotic exoskeletons, implementing multimodal feedback, and analysing physiological signals to provide adaptive, patient-centered therapy. You will work in a multidisciplinary team at CERN, combining expertise in robotics, human-machine interaction, and rehabilitation technologies to deliver innovative solutions that enhance patient engagement and accelerate recovery.

Your responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement VR/AR rehabilitation environments.
  • Implement multimodal feedback systems, including haptic, visual, and audio cues.
  • Acquire, process, and analyse physiological signals to adapt therapy in real time.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design patient-centered rehabilitation solutions.
  • Test, validate, and optimise the rehabilitation system with end-users.

Your profile:

  • Experience in robotics, human-machine interfaces, or control systems.
  • Familiarity with wearable sensor integration and haptic feedback.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical documentation and reporting.
  • Previous work in rehabilitation technologies or assistive systems is an asset.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in VR/AR reality development (Unity, Unreal Engine).
  • Robotics and systems Integration: sensor integration, haptics, control systems.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, C++, C#).
  • Basic knowledge of Machine Learning and its applications (e.g., signal analysis, pattern recognition, adaptive systems).
  • Experience with physiological signal acquisition and processing.
  • Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State
  • You have a professional background in Robotics, Computer Science (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.

Contract duration: 24 months, with a possible extension up to 36 months maximum.

Working hours: 40 hours per week
