Excel Academy is a network of 6 schools in Massachusetts and Rhode Island that prepares students in grades 5-12 to succeed in high school and college and engage productively in their communities. The majority of our 2,000 students identify as Latinx or Hispanic and will be the first in their families to graduate from college. Families choose Excel because our students consistently outperform their peers in growth and achievement and are 5x more likely to graduate from college.

The Excel Academy Teaching Fellowship is a year-long intensive teacher development program. The first half of the school-year, Fellows focus on developing their Classroom Culture and Management practice. The second half of the school year, Fellows focus on developing their Content and Lesson Instruction practice.
At Excel, we believe the best way to become an effective teacher is by being in classrooms - observing different styles, supporting students and practicing core instructional moves in a variety of settings. Excel Teaching Fellows are paired and coached by an experienced Mentor Teacher to develop the necessary teaching skills and mindsets required to become a successful culturally responsive educator through weekly coaching meetings, classroom observations, classroom coverage for absent teachers, and other development opportunities.
Excel Teaching Fellows also participate in bi-weekly professional development sessions that include topics such as active circulation, clarity of academic instruction, standards based approach learning, lesson internalization and feedback, and more. Each session allows Fellows to refine their skills and apply their practice directly to their classrooms. This hands-on immersion prepares Fellows to step confidently into lead teaching roles.
By the end of your Teaching Fellow year, you will have the option to apply for a lead teaching position at Excel Academy for the following school year, and as a current Excel Academy employee. you will be guaranteed an interview. High-performing fellows pay be asked to take on parental leave coverage assignment or can apply to take on a mid-year lead opening. For the duration of that coverage, compensation will be increased to a full teacher salary.
Starting Salary: $48 - 57k, commensurate with experience.

Preference will be given to applicants who share points of intersection with our students, such as speaking Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or a language commonly spoken by our students and families at an advanced level, being first generation college graduates, or having grown up low-income.
Excel Academy was founded in 2003 with the mission to provide a high-quality education to students in East Boston and Chelsea Massachusetts, communities that are predominantly low-income and Latinx and historically have faced significant social and educational barriers. Our success in Massachusetts is proof that the opportunity gap can be closed. At Excel Academy Charter Schools, we believe that when a student has the support and tools to pursue a productive post-secondary pathway aligned to their personal identity and values, it can fundamentally change their life trajectory.
Over the years, we have grown from one middle school to a network of four schools with 1,400 students in grades 5 to 12. In the fall of 2022 we will welcome a founding class of 5th graders to help us launch Excel Academy Rhode Island. By 2032, Excel Rhode Island will run 4 schools serving over 2,100 students from Providence, Central Falls, and North Providence.
