TEACHING ASSISTANT Roberts

Division: CAS Department: Criminal Justice Experience: Mid-level

Supervisor/Reports To: Dr. Timothy Roberts Start Date: 8/25/2025

The Teaching Assistant in Criminal Justice supports engaging and effective instruction by preparing course materials, grading assignments, maintaining organized records, and assisting with classroom activities. The role facilitates discussions, offers academic support to students, and helps coordinate guest speakers and experiential learning opportunities such as mock trials or field visits.

Responsibilities and Career Competencies

  1. Prepare, organize, and distribute lecture materials, handouts, and online resources – C, T, P
  2. Assist in grading exams, quizzes, and assignments while maintaining accurate student records – CT, T, P
  3. Facilitate small‑group discussions and support classroom activities (e.g., mock trials, role‑playing exercises) – C, TW, CT
  4. Provide one‑on‑one or small‑group academic support to students needing clarification on course topics – C, CSD
  5. Coordinate logistics with guest speakers, law‑enforcement professionals, or community partners for special class sessions – C, TW, L
  6. Support experiential learning opportunities (mock trials, field visits) and assist with related materials and logistics – C, TW, P
  7. Update the learning management system (LMS) with course resources and announcements as directed – T, P

Education Requirements: Must be a current UPIKE student in good standing.

Work Schedule: M 9–11; T 9–12; W 9–11; R 9–12; F 9–11 (hours may vary depending on workload).

Work Conditions: Classroom and office environment.

Physical Demands: Keyboarding; reaching/handling.

Pay Rate: $10.50/hour
