As a Research & Development Writing Systems Engineer for Home & Office Print, you will be joining a strong, supportive world-wide team to deliver the quality consumer print products that our customers want. This is an opportunity to work in a business with a very large scale, with our products being a part of the lives of millions of people around the globe. This is a system role focused on the integration of printer and printhead. The job offers the opportunity to advocate for the customer by designing and evaluating the final product of a print system, the print on the page. The writing systems team collaborates across many teams in other disciplines such as mechanical design, reliability, wafer and printhead manufacturing, and more. The team frequently works with manufacturing partners in Malaysia and development partners in Singapore, with the opportunity to travel at times to these locations to work together. The writing systems team is supportive and a great place to learn and grow as an engineer. This system role will broaden your view and your network.

The writing systems team is responsible for finding, taking ownership of, and solving issues of the printhead, and to be the voice of the customer in these efforts.


Responsibilities

  • This role is to lead the testing on the printer system to demonstrate PHA and/or Ink baseline performance. For example: Nozzle health, edge roughness, spray, decap, flowrate, color and other print quality metrics will be the standard performance metrics to monitor while looking for pen/ink/printer related interaction issues.
  • Lead Pen fluidic and ink characterization. The WS engineer will be responsible of providing the data that can illustrate the expected fluidic arch and ink performance and highlight any issues with the integrated system.
  • Autopsy/Triage/Failure tracking. This task involves collecting failed printheads, performing the initial triage, coordinating the appropriate failure analysis work, summarizing, reporting out the analysis, and assign next steps for each one of them.
  • Lead issue resolution using structured lean problem-solving methods.
  • Close collaboration with other print cartridge team in Corvallis/San Diego and printer partners in Singapore.
  • Interact with Ink Supplies Organization (ISO) manufacturing teams. Transfer & support printhead manufacturing qualification.
  • Partner with, and influence, all levels of management across the business.
  • Drive future product requirements by defining customer needs for product; Distill complex technical information into simple messages to allow constructive conversations across the business.
  • Make customer-focused judgments on product quality and reliability; Drive tough system level technical issues to resolution and solution implementation.
  • Document and transfer specifications, justifications, and knowledge to our manufacturing partners to assure a robust product for the whole product life cycle.
  • Provide technical guidance and necessary mentoring to develop the technical capabilities of other engineers; Drive process development and provide direction and guidance to improve existing processes.


Education & Experience Recommended

  • Typically has 7-10 years of work experience, preferably in microfluidics and print quality design related field.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Material/Chemical engineering or relevant.

  • Technical breath & system approach.
  • Demonstrated analytical and empirical problem-solving skills.
  • System thinker, looking for connections, and comfortable with things being dynamic.
  • Growth mindset, good flexibility and adaptability are key.
  • Fluent in spoken & written English.
  • Ability to work across multiple time zones / both within and outside one's own work group.
  • Prior print test experience who wants to grow their knowledge of the pen system issues and failure analysis techniques.
  • Available for occasional travel (25%)
