Job Description

WORSHIP DIRECTOR

At the Washington Alliance Church, the Lord has been growing us in many ways, and we see His impact within our church and in our community expanding (Acts 2:47). Presently, we find ourselves following His direction to find a Worship Director who can be an integral member of our leadership team. This is a full-time support position to build and develop our ministry groups responsible for the music and media elements of our worship services. The Worship Director will work closely with our lead pastor and other support staff in cultivating services and developing teams that lead our congregation in true and intimate worship of our Savior (John 4:23).

It is our desire that the Worship Director bring their God-given gifts of creativity, musical skill, Biblical foundations, and heart for shepherding and “presence-ministry” to our team. Our church body has a desire to truly worship, and we believe the Holy Spirit will continue to lead us and teach us. We sing the best of old and the best of new songs to Jesus, but we also recognize that true worship is so much more than music (Romans 12:1).

Finding our Worship Director, whom we believe God has been preparing, is a priority for our church. To the best of our understanding, we are seeking an individual who is called and gifted by God to join our teams and lead in the following areas:

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WORSHIP (MUSIC)

The primary current need and critical responsibility for the Worship Director is oversight and leadership of the worship music ministry at our church.

  • Develop worship services that encourage and welcome people to encounter the presence of God and connect with Him
  • Lead the congregation and the members of the music ministry and media teams to grow in their hunger and relationship with God through worship
  • Modeling and leading passionate and heartfelt worship in an invitational style that draws people into the throne room, encourages participation, and points people to Jesus
  • Create and teach a worship culture, and effectively communicate vision for worship
  • Capable of selecting songs prayerfully that will resonate with the congregation and align with the overall worship vision
  • Serve as the music director, leading and shepherding the current and expanding worship teams, mentor volunteer worship leaders, and giving leadership opportunities to others as appropriate
  • Utilize a mix of new, current, and traditional songs and styles, understanding the mixed demographics of our congregation

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WORSHIP (MEDIA & OTHER MINISTRIES)

In addition to music, the Worship Director will be critically involved in leadership and development of the media team as well as opportunities to partner with other ministries of the church in regard to worshipping the Lord.

  • Provide vision and oversight for our technical ministries — including sound, video, lighting, ProPresenter, and Planning Center — working alongside an existing team of dedicated volunteers to continue developing these areas.
  • Partner with Children and Student Ministries to enhance their ministry and develop future worship volunteers/leaders
  • Teach scripture, pray, and incorporate other elements into creative worship elements
  • Utilize other giftings to bless the church and further the Gospel
  • Manage various day-to-day responsibilities associated with ministry
  • Serve in other areas as directed by the Lead Pastor and shared staff
  • Attend Staff meetings regularly. Attend Board of Ministries and Elders meetings as necessary.
  • Recognize God’s unique anointing and giftedness upon you, discover what new and possibly yet unspoken opportunities exist to glorify and worship Him together with us
