The Worship Arts Pastor provides spiritual, musical, creative, and organizational leadership for the worship ministry of Fellowship of the Rockies. This pastor leads worship environments that are biblically grounded, spiritually engaging, culturally aware, and aligned with our mission of Connecting God, People, and Community. The role also develops healthy teams, multiplies leaders, strengthens ministry systems, and provides pastoral care to those serving in worship and technical arts. Our aim is not simply to produce excellent services, but to create worship environments where people can respond to God, grow in faith, and take their next step with Christ.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

PRIMARY OUTCOMES

• Weekend and ministry worship experiences are prayerfully planned, biblically faithful, well prepared, and executed with excellence.
• Worship leaders, musicians, vocalists, and contractors are spiritually cared for, clearly led, and continually developed.
• The worship ministry maintains a healthy leadership pipeline with growing volunteer participation and multiple capable leaders.
• Worship and Technical Arts function as one collaborative ministry with clear roles, shared expectations, and consistent communication.
• Budgets, schedules, rehearsals, resources, and ministry systems are managed responsibly and proactively.

CORE LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

Spiritual & Pastoral Leadership

• Lead from an active relationship with Jesus, modeling humility, integrity, prayer, teachability, and faithfulness.
• Provide discipleship, mentoring, encouragement, and appropriate pastoral care to worship and technical arts team members.
• Build a ministry culture marked by unity, preparation, accountability, emotional and spiritual health, and genuine care for people.
• Participate fully in the pastoral and staff life of Fellowship of the Rockies, including weekly meetings, ministry rhythms, and congregational care as assigned.

Worship Planning & Service Leadership

• Plan and design worship services in collaboration with the Senior Pastor, teaching team, Technical Director, and other ministry leaders.
• Lead worship regularly and provide direction for weekend services, special services, holidays, funerals, weddings, and church-wide events as assigned.
• Select songs and creative elements that support the biblical message, serve the congregation, and reflect the theological convictions and ministry philosophy of Fellowship of the Rockies.
• Prepare and communicate service plans, arrangements, charts, tracks, transitions, and expectations with sufficient lead time.

Team Development & Multiplication

• Recruit, audition, onboard, train, schedule, and develop worship ministry volunteers and contracted team members.
• Develop additional worship leaders, band leaders, vocal leaders, and ministry captains who can lead with spiritual maturity and musical competence.
• Create clear development pathways for musicians and vocalists, including coaching, feedback, rehearsals, and growth opportunities.
• Conduct or coordinate instrumental and vocal evaluations. Technical evaluations remain under the responsibility of the Technical Director.

Rehearsals, Musical Excellence, & Resources

• Schedule and lead rehearsals and service run-throughs with preparation, clarity, professionalism, and respect for volunteers’ time.
• Develop the musical skill, unity, versatility, and preparedness of the worship team while maintaining an accessible worship culture for the congregation.
• Maintain appropriate standards for stage presence, communication, musicianship, dress, punctuality, and team participation.
• Help steward worship instruments, equipment, software, music libraries, licenses, and related resources in partnership with the Technical Director and facilities staff.

Technical Arts Partnership & Supervision

• Provide direct supervision, encouragement, clarity, and accountability to the Technical Director.
• Partner with the Technical Director to ensure worship, audio, video, lighting, livestream, and stage operations function as one coordinated ministry.
• Clarify responsibilities between Worship Arts and Technical Arts, resolve gaps promptly, and support the development of technical volunteers.
• Ensure service planning and creative decisions are communicated early enough for technical teams to prepare effectively.

Ministry Operations & Administration

• Implement worship ministry systems, procedures, standards, and annual priorities in alignment with the mission, values, doctrine, and philosophy of Fellowship of the Rockies.
• Maintain accurate schedules, calendars, Planning Center data, team communication, and ministry documentation.
• Manage and supervise annual Worship Arts and Technical Arts budgets, including monthly reviews, purchasing, contractor expenses, and credit card reporting.
• Submit payroll information, contractor documentation, invoices, and timesheets accurately and on time.
• Stay current with responsible developments in church worship, music, technology, copyright, and ministry best practices.

Church-Wide Worship Leadership

• Provide leadership, coaching, and support for youth worship and other ministry worship teams.
• Coordinate with ministry leaders so worship support is sustainable, appropriately staffed, and aligned with church-wide priorities.
• Lead ongoing recruitment efforts, including interest meetings, personal invitations, and clearly communicated next steps for prospective team members.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

• Undergraduate degree, preferably in music education, or equivalent ministry or professional experience.
• Minimum of 5 years leading worship in a large church context.
• Familiarity with worship planning tools, scheduling platforms, and modern worship workflows.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A mature follower of Jesus who is biblically grounded and demonstrates high moral character, spiritual discernment, and pastoral credibility.
• Demonstrated ability to lead worship effectively and help a congregation participate rather than simply observe.
• Strong vocal and musical ability, with competence in leading a band and communicating musical direction.
• Formal music education is preferred; equivalent ministry experience, professional experience, or private instruction may be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, equip, organize, inspire, and retain volunteer teams.
• Strong communication, collaboration, conflict-resolution, and organizational skills.
• Experience with worship planning tools, digital music resources, tracks, charts, scheduling platforms, and modern worship workflows is preferred.
• Commitment to continued growth as a pastor, leader, musician, and team developer through coaching, classes, conferences, reading, and other development opportunities.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

• Salary Range = $64,000 - 74,000
