The Work You Will Do:

Workstation supervisor / Transportation Support / Office of Information Technology

This position will ensure the Florida Department of Transportation’s workforce remains productive and supported by leading enterprise workstation and application support across District 1. By supervising technical staff, managing service delivery, and overseeing critical IT projects and support functions, the role directly enables FDOT’s mission by maintaining reliable, secure, and efficient technology services for employees statewide.

Annual Salary Range:

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Supervises employees in the Workstation/Special Applications Group spending majority of their time communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees, and planning and directing employees’ work. Leads and tracks projects as assigned. Supervises staff that performs advanced troubleshooting to determine cause of problem. Works with staff on issues outside their areas of responsibility as needed. Supervises staff that generates and maintains detailed technical documentation such as software installation guidelines and troubleshooting processes. Provides hardware and software technical training and professional development for other technicians as needed or assigned.

Directs the monitoring and assignment of service desk tickets to the appropriate technician or group for proper resolution and to ensure all Service Level Agreements are met in a timely manner.

Oversees, coordinates, and/or participates in projects like the Personal Computer Replacement Project, Memory Upgrade Project, Operating System Upgrade Project, etc.

Participates on statewide teams, both internal and external to the Office of Information Technology. Provide facts to facilitate the team's decision-making process and to achieve the team's goals. Shares information and receives feedback from other Office of Information Technology staff as appropriate.

Oversees the support for software applications such as Microsoft Operating Systems, Microsoft Office Suite, various off the shelf and Department developed applications, as needed or assigned. Oversees the installation, maintenance and support of specialized software applications as assigned. Performs, evaluates, and promotes research and testing of assigned special applications including both hardware and software.

Provides Tier III advanced support for other Technicians as needed or assigned.

Oversees Audio Visual (AV) and Video Conference (VC) support as assigned. Assists with reserving, setting up, and troubleshooting of AV and VC equipment.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft products, including operating systems, office suite and outlook in a network environment
  • Advanced knowledge of computer software, hardware, and firmware relative to personal computer, local area network/wide area network environments

Skills in:

  • Skill and ability to supervise technical staff
  • Skilled at installing and providing technical support for software applications, operating systems, and personal computer hardware

Ability to:

  • Ability to perform advanced troubleshooting on various manufacturers of computers
  • Ability to lead and participate on teams; advanced knowledge of Microsoft products
  • Ability to plan, organize, manage and track projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to read, understand, and comply with the department's policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices relating to desktop standards
  • Ability to mentor, train and support other technicians.
