2026 Job Description for Workshop Facilitator
Continuing Professional Studies, Bank Street College of Education
Seeking an experienced educator to design and facilitate a workshop for 10-25 educators.
Workshop description below.
TEWS898N Storytelling in the Writing Workshop: Loose Parts & Creative Sparks
(PreK-Grade 2)
This class explores how open-ended materials can support and deepen young children’s
storytelling and writing development in classrooms. We will examine how design thinking
and loose parts can elevate the writing workshop, particularly for students who struggle to
generate ideas or sustain engagement. Each session begins with a thoughtfully designed
Firestarter—a short creative provocation using intentional constraints to spark imagination,
problem-solving, and narrative thinking. Through hands-on exploration, educators will
learn how materials such as wire, clay or play-dough, paper, LEGO®, and fabric can serve
as thinking tools to support the development of narrative, opinion/persuasive, and
informational writing. The course emphasizes inclusive, playful strategies that honor
multiple modes of expression and help all learners find their voice as they write.
Start Date: Thursday, July 30 from 9:30 AM - 3:00 PM ET
