Dawson Mine

Our Dawson operation is a large open-cut coal mine and is showing no signs of slowing down! Dawson is located at the southern end of the Bowen Basin in Central Queensland, being just over a 2hrs drive west from either Rockhampton or Gladstone, or 4.5hrs drive north of the Darling Downs or South Burnett. Subsidised residential or camp accommodation options available.

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

Job Description

We are currently seeking an experienced Diesel Fitter and a Leading Hand to join the Workshop Maintenance Ancillary team at our Dawson Mine in Moura, QLD.

This role is based within the Ancillary Equipment Workshop, responsible for the maintenance, repair and inspection of workshop support equipment, including medium vehicles, tractors, pumps, generators, forklifts, telehandlers, air compressors, lubrication systems and other hydraulic and mechanical workshop assets.

Your core accountabilities will include:

  • Maintain ancillary workshop plant and equipment to a high standard of safety, reliability and availability.
  • Perform fault finding, diagnostics, breakdown repairs and preventative maintenance on workshop ancillary equipment.
  • Inspect, repair and service hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems associated with workshop infrastructure and support equipment.
  • Complete maintenance activities in accordance with site procedures, statutory requirements and OEM recommendations.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities and work orders within SAP.
  • Contribute to achieving Engineering & Maintenance performance targets.
  • Support the Workshop Fitter team with maintenance activities on CAT and Komatsu heavy mobile equipment, including dozers, graders, loaders, trucks and watercarts when required.
  • Ensure compliance with all Anglo American safety and operating systems while working collaboratively within a high-performing maintenance team.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Trade Qualification (Diesel Fitter, Fitter & Turner, Plant Mechanic or equivalent).
  • Experience maintaining ancillary equipment within a mining, heavy industry or workshop environment.
  • Current Australian Manual Driver's Licence.
  • Experience with safety management systems and safe work practices.
  • SAP experience and auto-electrical knowledge are desirable.
  • High Risk Work Licences including Forklift, EWP, Dogging, Rigging and/or HIAB operation are highly desirable.
  • Experience with overhead cranes, forklifts, telehandlers, compressors, hydraulic systems and workshop infrastructure will be highly regarded.
