This internship is unpaid and designed to support students or recent graduates seeking practical experience in the field. Candidates may be eligible to earn academic credit through their college or university.

EEA’s Coastal Zone Management Group is seeking a Fall Intern to join their team! The intern will work with the CZM team and with the various working waterfronts communities and stakeholders throughout the Commonwealth.

This person will advance opportunities to strengthen blue tech and maritime industries, while integrating public access and resilience into the ports and harbors. The individual will learn about the Commonwealth's working waterfronts, its policies, engage with stakeholders, and advance opportunities to strengthen the Commonwealth's working waterfronts. This internship would provide opportunities to collaborate with the CZM team, state and federal partners, and other maritime stakeholders. Additionally, there would be opportunities to visit various working waterfronts throughout the Commonwealth.

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop an understanding of the Commonwealth's working waterfronts, including its policies, like CZM's Designated Port Areas.

  • Coordinate with CZM, other state and federal partners, working waterfront communities, and maritime stakeholders.

  • Review existing reports and resources on working waterfront, e.g. CZM's DPA Assessment, Boston Waterfront Partners Report, etc.

  • Develop implementable actions for strengthening working waterfronts including increasing public access opportunities and resilience.

  • Coordinate with existing efforts on working waterfronts, e.g. EOD Maritime Strategy effort.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in working waterfronts, stakeholder engagement, and resilience topics.

  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.).

  • Comfortable with stakeholder engagement.

Other relevant information:

  • Hours per week: 22.5 hours per week
  • This position is partially remote with a hybrid schedule that includes a minimum of one day in-office per week
  • Internship duration: 9/21/26 – 12/4/26
