Position Summary Information

Primary Purpose
The Workforce Pathways and Cooperative Programs Coordinator develops and coordinates rural health internships, apprenticeships, clinical and field placements, fellowships, rural rotations, and other work-based learning experiences for students and trainees. The position works directly with participants, employers, educational partners, training sites, preceptors, and supervisors to establish opportunities, advise and match participants, monitor learning and progress, evaluate experiences, and support progression into rural health employment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in career services, higher education, workforce development, education, counseling, public health, health sciences, human resources, business administration, or a related field.
  • At least two years of professional experience in cooperative education, career services, internships, apprenticeships, clinical or field placements, employer engagement, student advising, or work-based learning.
  • Experience working directly with students or trainees and external employers, supervisors, preceptors, or training sites.
  • Strong advising, communication, organization, documentation, data-management, and relationship-management skills.

License/Certification Required
No license or certification is required. Project management, workforce development, public health, clinical, or related certifications may be preferred where applicable.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, workforce development, education, public health, or a related field.
  • Experience with rural health workforce programs, community colleges, apprenticeships, clinical or field education, rural residency, or healthcare employers.
  • Experience monitoring student or trainee learning, workplace performance, placement, or employment outcomes.
  • Experience with applicant tracking, career-services, student-information, customer-relationship-management, or program data systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop cooperative education and work-based learning opportunities. Recruit and onboard employers and training sites; define experience scope, supervision, learning objectives, schedules, and participant requirements; and coordinate internships, apprenticeships, clinical and field placements, fellowships, rural rotations, and other approved experiences.
  • Advise, prepare, and match students and trainees. Explain program, placement, and applicable service-commitment requirements; assess participant interests and readiness; coordinate applications and matching; support onboarding; and connect participants with approved supports.
  • Monitor participant learning, progress, and completion. Maintain regular contact with participants and supervisors; review progress toward learning and workforce goals; identify barriers; coordinate interventions; and document completion, credentials, placement, and required follow-up.
  • Support employers, preceptors, supervisors, and mentors. Provide orientation, tools, communication, and problem-solving support; clarify educational and program expectations; and coordinate with Technical Assistance Specialists when a site needs broader development or capacity support.
  • Evaluate cooperative programs and placement quality. Gather participant and employer feedback; review participation, completion, placement, and retention information; identify trends; and recommend improvements to recruitment, matching, site support, and program design.
  • Coordinate career outreach and required program records. Support pathway and employer events, participant communications, program materials, and the documentation needed for reporting, approved supports, service-commitment monitoring, and program accountability.

Physical Demands of Position
This position primarily involves office and computer-based work involving sitting, typing, reading, analysis, virtual meetings, advising, facilitation, and communication. Regular travel to campuses, employers, training sites, and regional meetings is required. Occasional lifting or transport of materials up to 20 pounds may be required.
