Job Description

University of Utah Health is growing! We are seeking a dynamic new Workforce Development Counselor to join the Workforce Development Team, as part of the HR Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning department at University of Utah Health, Hospitals and Clinics.

  • The Workforce Development Counselor functions as a liaison between employees and recruitment, matching career development and career planning with organizational workforce planning strategies.
  • The Workforce Development Counselor helps employees identify personal interests and life goals that may lead to career enrichment though new employment opportunities.

Strong partnerships with recruitment, hiring leaders, organizational development, and educational programming, allow the career coach to help develop job skills and social skill preparation. This position manages workforce development initiatives and programming, including talent and career assessments, resume reviews, interview preparation, and provides strategic guidance and motivation in setting and achieving career goals.

Qualified candidates must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling, human resources, or a related field
  • 3 years of career counseling, recruitment, or human resources or progressive business-related experience
  • Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) or Certified Career Services Provider (CCSP) credential must be completed within 6 months of hire.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Prior background in human resources, healthcare, or service industry.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Interface with internal employees and assist in the job search and application process – reviewing clients’ resumes and cover letters and providing feedback; rehearse job interview tactics with clients and offers advice.
  • Engage in career exploration conversations with clients through a solid understanding of all UUHC positions (tasks and qualifications), partnering with recruiters and hiring leaders in order to answer questions concerning details about different careers.
  • Develop effective job coaching and employment plans through client completion of personality, skill, and aptitude tests to determine clients’ interests, ambitions, and talents. Counsels clients on how to strengthen potential skills gaps and identify where additional education or experience may be necessary. Assist employees to look outside of the organization when appropriate.
  • Accurately assess and understand clients’ experience and education when recommending career paths. Recommend additional education, when appropriate, to clients to help them achieve their career goals. Understanding the tuition investment program (TIP) and maintaining relationships with colleges and universities is important.
  • Partner with the workforce planning and recruiters to identify and understand key areas of opportunity and work with clients to match to those strategic areas.
  • Hold seminars and workshops to educate individuals who are searching for the right career path. Assist in coordination of job shadows and job sampling when appropriate. Coordinate and host internal career fairs annually at a minimum.
  • Serves as a liaison with our current and future educational programs.

  • Strong coaching and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation of workshops.
  • Experience in program and project development and implementation.
  • Familiarity with career, employment and hiring trends.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and proven effectiveness in serving the needs of a population from various backgrounds.

  • Proficient with technology and able to learn new systems quickly and easily.
