General Description:

The Workforce Support Specialist serves as the primary point of contact and trusted coach for Workforce Advantage participants. This position provides individualized case management, helps students navigate financial and personal barriers, connects students with campus and community resources, and supports students from enrollment through credential completion and successful transition into employment or career advancement.

*This position is eligible for telework after completion of state one-year probationary period.*

Duties and tasks:

  • Direct student support to program participants
  • Develop individualized success plans with students and help them establish realistic academic, career, and personal goals.
  • Program administration, data management, partner collaboration, and continuous program improvement.
  • Support student coaching, events, orientations, workshops, and other program activities.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and complete program records and case documentation
  • Tracks participant progress and program outcomes
  • Meets grant reporting deadlines; ensures compliance with grant requirements, FERPA, and institutional policies; and effectively coordinates with program, financial, and administrative staff to support efficient program operations.

*This position is restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

KSAs:

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Comfortable learning new systems and adapting to changing processes.
  • Familiarity with Navigate, or similar case management platforms.
  • Knowledge of community resources throughout Northern Virginia.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish, Amharic, Arabic are strongly preferred

Minimum Work Experience:

  • Experience working with adult learners and/or first-generation students.
  • Experience in human services, education, social work, counseling, workforce development, or a related field.
  • Experience providing coaching, advising, case management, or student success support.
  • Experience maintaining accurate documentation and managing multiple priorities.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with TANF, SNAP Employment & Training, WIOA, or other grant-funded workforce programs.

Operation of a State Vehicle No Supervises Employees No Required Travel

May be required to travel between NOVA Campuses.
