Job Description

The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Workers Compensation / Leave Specialist in the Human Resources Department.

The Workers Compensation / Leave Specialist is responsible for the administration and oversight of the City’s workers’ compensation program, leave programs, and medical and drug testing procedures and policies.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Communicates policies and procedures to employees on workers’ compensation and leave programs; Facilitates communication with third-party vendors and occupational health providers; Facilitates documentation and investigation of accidents/injuries and necessary reporting; Makes recommendations for preventing common workplace injuries and recommends training as needed; Facilitates payment of workers’ compensation claims and invoices; Completes reporting requirements including OSHA and Department of Labor reporting; Responsible for the management and administration of the random drug testing protocol; Works with management on the oversight of sick leave provisions and conducts sick leave investigations as needed; Determines leave eligibility; Designates FMLA certifications and determines if requirements are met; Participation in Risk and Safety Committee; duties as assigned.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, or related field and three (3) years’ Human Resources experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience). This position also requires a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in the administration of workers’ compensation and leaves. Possession of an OSHA 10 certification is preferred.

Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to physical, drug screen, and background check.

This is a full-time, executive position. The position works on site in City Hall with work hours from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The salary range is $75,004.80 - $100,692.80 with starting rate dependent on experience and qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint of the range.
