Job Category: Health CareThe Work Supports Instructor I is expected to support people with disabilities in all areas of vocational development as identified in the Single Plan document and to assist the WSI III, WSI Supervisor and Program Manager in planning, organizing, directing, and assessing vocational supports for people who purchase services through the Babcock Center’s Vocational Supports Division. The Work Supports Instructor I is expected to develop and maintain a cooperative, professional working relationship with colleagues. The WSI I is expected to represent Babcock Center appropriately and conduct himself/herself in a professional manner when interacting with people receiving services, their families, staff from other agencies, customers and the general public.
Direct Service Responsibilities:
- Focuses on learning the vocational desires, goals and needs of each person served.
- Develops and maintains a thorough understanding of Personal Outcomes Measures (as defined by The Council on Quality and Leadership) as they relate to vocational/daytime endeavors.
- Provides and documents individualized supports to ensure desired vocational outcomes for each person served.
- Ensures people served are supported to successfully complete contracts and learn new job skills, community concepts and other skills necessary for successful work experiences.
- Assists supervisor in meeting production goals.
- Utilizes alternative work-related activities to enhance desired vocational outcomes. Uses creativity in designing alternative work-related activities as directed by Supervisor.
- Assists supervisor in ensuring that work produced is of acceptable quality and sufficient quantity to meet contractual obligations.
- Uses a variety of vocational opportunities in supporting people in reaching their desired outcomes.
- Provides all people with equal opportunities and choice to participate in production work.
- Attends and participates in employee meetings and designated in-service training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Documentation Responsibilities:
- Documents progress for each person served accurately, legibly, and timely.
- Documents Single Plan progress monthly for each person served.
- Completes and maintains relevant assessments for work performed and for Single Plan development.
- Maintain accountability documentation as required per Single Plan for each person served.
- Reports accurate production figures, ensures accurate wages.
- Documents all incident reports, accident/injury reports, etc. as required.
- Ensures that all vehicle maintenance and mileage logs are maintained and turned in as scheduled.
- Completes times cards accurately and on time.
Medication Responsibilities:
- Assists persons supported with taking of medication as prescribed by their attending physician.
- Documents medication assistance on Assistance With Medication (AWM) form immediately and accurately.
- Secures medication in locked container at all times.
- Reports all medication concerns/errors to the WSI Supervisor or Program Manager immediately. (i.e. medication shortages, medication changes, improper labeling, missed medications, etc.)
Safety/Standards Responsibilities:
- Complies with all safety and security procedures and regulations.
- Ensures compliance with all Babcock Center policies and procedures
- Participates on safety committee as directed by Supervisor.
- Maintains care in the handling and maintenance of contract supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic Department Of Labor (DOL) standards, (i.e. commensurate wages, time studies, hourly rates, piece rates, etc.)
- Demonstrates knowledge of basic licensing and day program standards as developed by DDSN.
Budgetary/Fiscal Responsibilities:
- Uses resources efficiently.
- Offers suggestions for more efficient use of resources as identified.
Working Conditions:
The Work Supports Instructor I is expected to work 40 hours per week, generally eight hours per day, primarily during the hours of 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 pm. or more as needed. Flexibility may be required depending on schedule demands. This position is considered non-exempt. The position may require work outdoors, operation of heavy machinery and tools, evening and weekend hours.
Supervision:
The Work Supports Instructor I report to the Work Supports Instructor Supervisor or the WSI III in the absence of the WSI Supervisor.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 18 years old.
- Valid South Carolina drivers license and good driving record
- Maintain approved driving privileges with Babcock Center.
Hazards/Potential Hazards:
Biological/infectious wastes, cleaners/solvents, climbing, disinfectants/glutaraldehyde, electrical ergonomic hazards: i.e. lifting, pushing/pulling, twisting, hazardous wastes, latex allergy, sharps (needles, broken glass etc) soaps/detergents and wet surfaces.

Must be able to deal with stress associated with fast-paced work environment and multi-tasking. Formulate decisions and act upon them. Adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels. Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information.
Typical Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, reaching, frequent lifting, and manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Must have normal range of hearing and vision.
