Student Marketing & Social Engagement Assistant (Part-Time)

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION:

UW's Summer High School Institute, Honors College

Job location: Laramie, WY

Pay rate or range: Starting at $12/hour

JOB PURPOSE: 

The Summer High School Institute is seeking a creative, energetic, and detail-oriented Student Marketing & Social Engagement Assistant to support program marketing, student outreach, and social media engagement efforts. This position provides hands-on experience in content creation, digital marketing, event promotion, and audience engagement while helping increase awareness and participation in summer programming.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Marketing & Communications

  • Assist with the development and distribution of promotional materials for Summer High School Institute programs.
  • Create engaging content for social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, and X (Twitter).
  • Draft marketing copy for emails, newsletters, digital signage, and website updates.
  • Help maintain a content calendar and support timely posting of communications.
  • Assist with capturing photos and videos during program events and activities.

Social Media & Student Engagement

  • Monitor social media accounts and respond to questions or comments as directed.
  • Promote upcoming events, deadlines, and student success stories.
  • Create short-form videos, graphics, and student spotlights to encourage engagement.
  • Support online campaigns designed to increase program awareness and participation.
  • Track engagement metrics and provide recommendations for improving reach and visibility.

Event Support

  • Assist with outreach activities, information sessions, and recruitment events.
  • Support event promotion before, during, and after program activities.
  • Help gather participant testimonials, photos, and feedback for future marketing efforts.
  • Represent the Summer High School Institute in a professional and welcoming manner.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with organizing digital marketing assets and program materials.
  • Maintain records of social media content and marketing projects.
  • Complete other duties as assigned in support of program goals. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at the institution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and current digital trends.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Must be eligible, have received and accepted work study award through Student Financial Aid for the applicable semester and/or academic year.
