Lever Foundation is a global non-profit that focuses on creating a more humane and sustainable protein supply chain in Asia and beyond. We work with large food companies and suppliers to secure commitments to more sustainable and higher-welfare practices. Our partners include leading food and beverage and hospitality companies such as Daesang, Homeplus, Shuttle, Accor, Marriot, Hyatt, Hilton and many others.

In recent years, in response to increasing concern for sustainability and animal welfare, nearly a hundred food companies operating in Korea (and many more abroad) have set corporate policies to source only “cage-free” eggs, which are far more humane for animals and higher in food safety. Lever Foundation has helped secure policies on this topic and other food sustainability topics, such as sustainable protein and plant-based foods. from over 250 companies across Korea, East Asia, and beyond.

As a Sustainability Program Manager, you will proactively outreach and build relationships with decision makers at leading food companies. You will help educate these companies on the environmental, animal welfare, and economic benefits of implementing stronger sustainable food sourcing policies, such as the use of cage-free eggs, in their supply chain. You will provide industry updates, connect these companies with potential suppliers, and provide other resources to help them understand and set targets on the issue. In order to identify and engage with top management of the new food companies, you will actively network and outreach by doing online research, write and send emails, make calls, and conduct visits and meetings with companies.

Through this work, you will have hands-on experience working with leading food companies on corporate sustainability, with room for advancement to managerial or other positions.

Qualifications

We do not require any particular educational or work background, although prior experience in sales, negotiation, business development or similar work is a plus.

  • Extroverted and proactive in building relationships and personal networks
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and be highly engaging and persuasive
  • Ability to work independently, with a very strong work ethic and a can-do mentality
  • Ability to remain resilient and motivated when you are brushed off
  • Personal interest in sustainability, animal welfare, or public Health
  • Must be fluent in Korean and conversational or fluent in English

Lever Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt public charity headquartered in the United States, with a diverse team based primarily in Asia with additional staff in Europe and the Americas. Lever creates a more humane and sustainable protein supply chain in Asia by upgrading animal protein to reduce animal suffering and advancing alternative protein to ease agriculture's impact on the environment by removing the most intensive factory farming practices.

Lever works with talented entrepreneurs across mainland China and Southeast Asia to create new alternative protein companies and offer critical early support to promising existing startups to develop a more sustainable, scalable food supply. Lever is also active with food companies and media outlets to increase interest and activity in the sector and educate consumers.

Lever works with food companies and producers to help remove the worst factory farming cruelties from their supply chains. This work includes comprehensive animal welfare policies impacting egg-laying hens, broiler chickens, pigs, cows, and fish. Lever has engaged with over 4,000 companies, including; Restaurant Brands International, METRO Group, JDE Peets, Hilton, Marriott, and many others.
