About the Role

We are looking for a WordPress Developer who can independently build, launch, and optimize WordPress websites from the ground up, including custom themes, plugin development, and integrations.

Our client is a digital agency with multiple active web development projects, and you will be leading the charge across new site builds, feature rollouts, and ongoing performance optimization. You'll collaborate with designers and PMs but are expected to own the full development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Build secure, scalable, and high-performing WordPress websites using custom themes and plugins
  • Translate UI/UX designs into fully functional WordPress frontends
  • Troubleshoot bugs, resolve plugin conflicts, and debug PHP or JS errors
  • Optimize performance, SEO, page speed, and security best practices
  • Integrate third-party APIs and tools such as Pardot or Hubspot
  • Own deployment and QA of all development tickets
  • Manage Git-based version control and contribute to codebase cleanliness
  • Mentor junior developers and support internal teams when needed

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building custom WordPress websites
  • Expert-level PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and MySQL
  • Fluent in WordPress core, theme/plugin development, and Gutenberg
  • Familiarity with REST APIs and integration workflows
  • Proficiency with Git and version control workflows
  • Strong understanding of SEO and security best practices
  • Experience working with Elementor, Divi, or WPBakery (but can code without them)
  • Familiarity with marketing tools like Pardot, Hubspot, and email template customization
  • Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and documentation habits

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building WooCommerce shops and e-commerce experiences
  • Exposure to headless WordPress or decoupled architecture
  • Familiarity with React or Vue.js
  • Basic server management (e.g., WP Engine, Cloudways, DigitalOcean)

Additional Information

  • Full-time: 40 hours per week
  • Contract Type: Independent Contractor
  • Work Hours: 9am to 5pm EST

We Offer:

  • 100% remote
  • Collaborate with a high-caliber, international team
  • Build portfolio-worthy websites with real impact
  • Mentorship and technical growth opportunities
  • Stability, trust, and long-term engagement
