Job Description

Summary:

The Women's Shelter Support Worker plays a vital role in providing assistance and support to women in crisis situations at our shelter in Kowanyama, Queensland. This casual position is essential for ensuring a safe and supportive environment for residents, helping them navigate their challenges and access necessary resources. The role is contributes to the welfare and empowerment of vulnerable women in the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support and practical assistance to women residing in the shelter.
  • Assist residents in accessing community resources, including healthcare and counselling services.
  • Maintain a safe and welcoming environment within the shelter.
  • Conduct intake assessments and develop individual support plans for residents.
  • Facilitate workshops and activities that promote personal development and empowerment.
  • Collaborate with other support services and agencies to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
  • Document and report on resident progress and any incidents in accordance with organisational policies.

Qualifications:

  • A background in social work, community services, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a support role, particularly with vulnerable populations, is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to empathise and build rapport.
  • Basic knowledge of local resources and services available for women in crisis.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.
