Women in Science - Segmentation of CT scans from Ancient Egypt (Undergraduate)

This is a full-time on-site paid internship specifically for women and those who identify as such who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree.

The selected candidate will assist with processing x-ray CT scans of Ancient Egyptian material which may include mummified individuals and their coffins, animal mummies, and wooden timbers from the Dahshur boat. They will learn how to work with the CT scans to isolate different regions of interest within the scans and digitally outline significant layers like the coffins, wrappings, bodies, and skeletons. The work will contribute to a better understanding of past lives of ancient Egyptians and the practices of preparing their dead for the afterlife. The CT segmentation work may also contribute to interactive and interpretive presentations for Museum visitors to better understand the lives of these ancient individuals. Please note that internship may involve working in the presence of human remains.

If selected, interns will be expected to attend an on-site HR orientation on June 22nd, 2026. Work on the internship will continue through July 31, 2026. The salary is $17.75/hour for 35 hours a week. Work will be performed on site at the Field Museum.

Demonstrated interest in Egyptology, previous knowledge of digital image processing, and close attention to detail will all be an advantage.
