Job Summary
The Mountain Safety Team will be our on-hill representation of safety and guest service. Attendants will provide positive educational feedback to guests in designated areas, as well as model correct behavior while skiing and riding. The goal will not be to enforce specific behaviors and/or correct individual behavior but rather have a positive influence on decision-making through loosely scripted communications and signage. These efforts will maintain an enjoyable environment for skiers and riders of all levels in specific areas of the resort.
The Mountain Safety Team Lead will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Mountain Safety Team and serve as the primary point of contact for team members during daily operations. The Team Lead will coordinate daily assignments, lead morning briefing meetings, monitor attendance and punctuality, and ensure that team members are performing assigned tasks safely, effectively, and to established standards. The Team Lead will also assist employees with operational needs such as uniforms, building access, equipment, and supplies; address routine employee and operational issues; and escalate concerns to management when appropriate.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
- Team Leadership & Daily Operations
- Train, lead, and oversee staff in day-to-day operations, including developing the daily plan, assigning team responsibilities and work locations, and ensuring assigned tasks and operational priorities are completed safely and effectively.
- Lead daily morning briefings and weekly safety meetings, communicating operational priorities, safety information, weather conditions, special events, and other relevant information, while completing required documentation.
- Monitor and adjust staffing, assignments, and priorities based on operational needs, weather, staffing levels, and resort priorities; troubleshoot staffing issues as they arise.
- Track employee attendance, tardiness, and call-outs; address routine concerns and escalate significant or recurring issues to management as appropriate.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for team members, addressing routine employee questions, concerns, and operational issues.
- Coordinate employee operational needs, including uniforms, building and facility access, equipment, supplies, and other resources necessary to perform assigned duties.
- Complete Department Incident Reports as needed and communicate significant safety, employee, or operational concerns to management.
- Maintain a positive, professional, and productive team environment and work closely with management and other departments to communicate operational needs and resolve issues.
Mountain Safety & Guest Service
- Promote an enjoyable experience for skiers and riders of all levels and positively influence on-hill culture with respect to safety, courtesy, and etiquette.
- Educate guests on the Skier Responsibility Code, resort policies, and best practices, and address customer behavior issues related to safe skiing and riding and adherence to Your Responsibility Code.
- Provide courteous and knowledgeable guest service, including wayfinding and accurate information regarding weather and ski reports, special events, activities, and general resort information.
- Work closely with Ski Patrol, Ambassadors, and other departments to create an on-hill environment that meets our guests' expectations.
- Maintain mountain safety signage and materials and ensure designated areas are properly prepared and presented.
- Model appropriate safety, courtesy, and skiing/riding behavior while performing job responsibilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications:
- Must be able to communicate fluently in English
- Knowledge of Killington’s mountains/trails, facilities, products, services, customer service mission, and group activities; and a general understanding of the ski industry
- Must be able to lift, pull, or push up to 50lbs repeatedly throughout the day
- Must be able to work in adverse weather and perform various duties
- Must be able to stand on snow in ski equipment for extended periods
- Expert ability to ski or ride
