The Winding Technician I is an entry‑level skilled role responsible for performing basic winding and coil assembly operations in accordance with established procedures, specifications, and safety standards. This role supports the manufacture of electrical components such as coils, transformers, motors, or similar assemblies while developing foundational technical and production skills.
The Winding Technician I performs routine winding and assembly tasks under close supervision, following standard work instructions and using basic winding equipment and tools. The role emphasizes learning proper techniques, material handling, and quality requirements while contributing to production output.
This position does not have people‑management responsibility and typically reports to a Senior Winding Technician, Lead Technician, Manufacturing Supervisor, or Production Supervisor (S2–S3 / M1).
Key Responsibilities
Basic Winding & Coil Assembly
Perform basic winding operations using manual or semi‑automatic winding equipment
Wind wire, cable, or conductor material onto forms, cores, or bobbins per instructions
Assemble simple coils or sub‑assemblies as part of electrical components
Material Preparation & Setup
Prepare materials for winding, including wire setup, insulation placement, and component staging
Assist with equipment setup and adjustment under supervision
Verify correct materials and job requirements prior to execution
Quality & Workmanship
Follow winding specifications, patterns, and tension guidelines
Inspect finished work for basic defects such as misalignment, damage, or incorrect turns
Report quality concerns or deviations promptly
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and machine‑safety rules
Handle wire, tools, and materials safely
Maintain clean and organized workstations
Documentation & Process Adherence
Read and follow work instructions, travelers, or basic drawings
Complete required production or quality documentation
Adhere to standard operating procedures and quality requirements
Equipment & Tool Care
Use winding equipment, hand tools, and measuring devices properly
Perform basic care and housekeeping of tools and machines
Report equipment issues or malfunctions
Team & Production Support
Work cooperatively with other technicians, assemblers, and supervisors
Support meeting daily production goals and schedules
Assist with general assembly or production tasks as assigned
Training & Skill Development
Learn winding techniques, materials, and electrical component basics
Participate in required training and skill‑development activities
Apply feedback to improve accuracy, efficiency, and quality
Qualifications
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
0–1 year of manufacturing, assembly, electrical, or winding experience preferred
Vocational training, technical coursework, or electrical assembly exposure preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Basic mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and visual work guides
Attention to detail and quality
Willingness to learn technical processes and equipment
Ability to work in a production or manufacturing environment
Physical ability to perform repetitive tasks safely
