Job Description

Winpak is looking for a Wincoating Manager to join our team based out of Winnipeg, MB.

Reporting to the Senior Extrusion Manager, the Wincoating Manager is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and cost-effective operation of the Wincoating department. This role provides strategic and day-to-day leadership to supervisors, technical resources, and production teams while driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Provide leadership and direction to Wincoating Supervisors, Process Specialists, and production teams to achieve operational objectives.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on achieving Zero Injuries.
  • Establish department goals, monitor performance, and provide coaching, development, and performance feedback to leaders and employees.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration across Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Technical teams.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity, waste reduction, and overall equipment effectiveness.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized operating procedures, production systems, and best practices to ensure consistent performance.
  • Monitor departmental performance against key metrics, budgets, and operational targets, implementing corrective actions as required.
  • Drive root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities to enhance process reliability and operational efficiency.

Technical & Business Performance

  • Partner with Technical, R&D, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to optimize processes, improve product manufacturability, and reduce downtime.
  • Support the evaluation, installation, and commissioning of new equipment and process improvements.
  • Maintain current knowledge of coating and extrusion technologies, manufacturing best practices, and industry trends.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, quality, food safety, and company standards, including ISO 9001 and SQF requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in extrusion, coating, flexible packaging, or a related manufacturing environment.
  • 3+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience, including mentoring, guiding, and training team members
  • Proven ability to drive operational improvements through safety, quality, productivity, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, and team development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage priorities, analyze performance metrics, and make data-driven decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Experience supporting capital projects, equipment installations, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Knowledge of ISO, SQF, or other quality and food safety management systems.
