
Within the context of a client and family centred model of care, in cooperation with multidisciplinary personnel and under the general supervision of an Occupational Therapist, sets up, produces and adapts assistive devices, wheelchairs and seating systems to enable clients to achieve and maintain maximum potential for independence. Performs maintenance duties on wheelchairs and assistive technology devices as required. Maintains an inventory of supplies, equipment, tools, wheelchairs, specialized mattresses, and seating components and arranges for maintenance and/or repair of equipment as necessary. Utilizes various computer programs to facilitate ordering equipment, record keeping and communication. Under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, instructs staff, residents, family members and volunteers on the proper functioning of wheelchair and assistive device equipment, and reports relevant observations of resident’s progress to the Occupational Therapist. Under the direction of an Occupational Therapist, will carry out an intervention plan related to the provision of wheeled mobility and seating. QUALIFICATIONS:QUALIFICATIONSEducation & Experience Grade 10, plus four (4) years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to organize work.Ability to operate related equipment.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
