About the Position:

The Wet Fuels Lab Mechanic plays a critical role in supporting automotive fuel system development, testing, and prototype vehicle programs. This position requires a mechanically inclined individual with strong hands-on skills who enjoys working in a laboratory and engineering environment. The successful candidate will support fuel system builds, component testing, fabrication activities, and troubleshooting efforts while working alongside engineers and fellow technicians.

This is an excellent opportunity for a versatile tradesperson who is comfortable working on a wide range of mechanical, electrical, fabrication, and testing activities and is eager to continue learning new technologies, including electrified and high-voltage vehicle systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Remove and replace (R&R) automotive fuel system components and assemblies.
  • Perform light fabrication, welding, and mechanical assembly work.
  • Build, repair, and modify wire harnesses and electrical connectors.
  • Operate and support department test stands used for component evaluation and validation.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues related to automotive systems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Work closely with engineers and technicians to support product development activities.
  • Complete required administrative tasks, including program tracking, labor reporting, and training documentation.
  • Support coworkers and department initiatives as needed.
  • Maintain and develop technical skill sets to support evolving engineering and product development requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic understanding of automotive repair and fuel systems.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Basic understanding of electronics and electrical systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems ranging from 120V to 480V and willingness to learn high-voltage vehicle systems.
  • Ability to use standard mechanic tools and maintain a personal toolbox.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with technical personnel.
  • Ability to support overtime when required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Automotive service, skilled trades, or technical certifications.
  • Experience working in a dealership, garage, laboratory, or vehicle development environment.
  • Experience with fuel systems, prototype vehicles, or product development testing.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience operating machine shop equipment, including lathes and Bridgeport mills.
  • Experience building and repairing wire harnesses and electrical connectors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with engineers in a technical development setting.
