𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: West Valley 2 Campus

𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: Under the direction and supervision of Secondary Administration and General Education and Special Education teachers, the Secondary Learning Mentor provides supervision, academic support, and instructional assistance to secondary students with mild to moderate disabilities. The position supports students in accessing classroom instruction, developing independence, and achieving academic, behavioral, and personal goals. Opportunities for advancement into other school and Special Education positions may be available.

𝗗𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀

The position includes but is not limited to the following list of representative duties:

• Provide supervision, academic support, and instructional assistance to students with special needs.
• Support students in accessing instruction provided by General Education and Special Education teachers.
• Provide consistent communication to Secondary Administration and assigned teachers regarding student needs, progress, and concerns.
• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the classroom teacher to support and reinforce learning objectives.
• Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under the direction of assigned teachers, including reading, math, writing, language comprehension, computer skills, and other subjects as needed.
• Assist with individual and group activities focused on academic, behavioral, social, self-esteem, and daily living skills.
• Promote good study habits, independence, and positive student outcomes.
• Document student activities, behavior, completed assignments, and other information as required.
• Assist teachers with evaluating student progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Provide positive guidance and support to students.
• Monitor individual and groups of students in classrooms and other settings, including restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading areas, assemblies, and field trips.
• Maintain classroom equipment and work areas to support a safe and effective learning environment.
• Work at school and other public settings as required.
• Uphold the Character Development characteristics taught on a monthly basis.
• Other duties as assigned.

𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗲

Typical schedule is M, T, W, F: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Th: 8:00 am - 3:00 pm (hours may vary based on campus).

Qualifications: 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀:

• Energetic, enthusiastic and committed to student success
• Ability to accept constructive criticism and make necessary adjustments
• Able to work well in a teamwork environment, including participation in a coaching model for teaching
• Able to demonstrate good classroom management skills
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Patient and able to work effectively with students with varying abilities and needs
• Ability to work well under pressure and appropriately respond to challenging or highly emotional situations
• Ability to support students in developing academic, behavioral, social, and independent living skills
• Experience in Special Education is desired but not required

𝗘𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

• No teaching license required
• Successful candidates must meet highly qualified status in one of three ways:
• Earned an Associate Degree; or
• Earned 48 college credit hours; or
• Successfully completing a basic academic skills (ParaPro) exam or Project Para Modules within two weeks of hire
