Job Description

Within the Investment Risk Management team, we are looking for a working student intern to support us with performing data analysis and financial market research on all risks related to our 71 bn asset portfolio. Does that spark your interest? Feel free to reach out to us!

What do you need to know about us?

We are Athora Netherlands, an insurance company with the well-known brands Zwitserleven and Reaal. We are mainly involved in pensions and life insurance in the Dutch market. We are part of a European group with offices in Ireland, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Germany and Italy. We are a strong company with over one million customers and we want to grow into one of the most important players in the rapidly changing pension market in the coming years. That is why we are looking for people who are not afraid of change, who are getting things done, who have the ambition to achieve results and who therefore know how to get the best out of themselves and their team. Smarter together, we call it.

With a portfolio of €71 billion assets, Athora Netherlands is one of the larger insurance companies in the Netherlands, which asks for management of many risks including liquidity, credit, market, operational and specific investment risks. This is the focus of the Investment Risk Management team. The day-to-day activities of the team ranges from reviewing new investment proposals, monitoring and reporting on the current asset portfolio and related risks, to ensuring our risk policies are up-to-date.

What are you going to do?

You will be working in the Investment Risk Management team, part of the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) domain. You will be part of a team of six colleagues with different backgrounds and nationalities. Our culture is open, professional and inclusive. We count on your own responsibility to deliver, with flexibility to choose where to work (home or office) and on which days to work depending on your weekly university schedule.

Important responsibilities include:

  • Build and maintain monitoring risk metrics (VaR, CVAR, MVAR) for specific investments.

  • Perform data cleaning, trend and regression analysis to derive data insights of the investment portfolios.

  • Perform stress testing of credit risk, liquidity risk and other risks related to the investment portfolio.

  • Improve and perform automated update of quarterly reports.

  • Generate deeper insights into credit, market, default, sustainability and /or emerging risks of the investment portfolio.

Requirements

What do we ask from you?

  • You are currently enrolled as a 3rd year Bachelor student or enrolled as a Master student in Econometrics, Data Science, Business Analytics, Finance, Economics, or another strongly technical field.

  • You have affinity to work with Excel and program code in Python, R script, or other tooling.

  • You have strong analytical skills and prefer to work in a structured way.

  • You like to work with data and perform research on current financial market risks.

  • You are curious to learn more about investments and dive into new topics.

  • You have strong communication skills to ensure smooth coordination and cooperation with other team members.

  • Availability to work at least 16 hours a week.

What do you get from us?

You get about 900 colleagues who all think they work for a special company. You will have the opportunity to make an important contribution to the socially relevant theme of pensions. We make sure that your pension is well taken care of so you can enjoy a carefree retirement.

You will have the opportunity to really make a difference when it comes to sustainability, because we have a leading role in our business operations and investments for years. Of course, you will get a (flexible) workplace at one of our offices that are among the best 7% in the world. And because you also work regularly from home, you will receive a budget to set up your home office properly.

In exchange for your commitment, talent and skills, next to your salary and holiday allowance and a thirteenth month, you will receive 27 vacation days (with a 36-hour contract), a public transport card (if necessary) and mobility allowance. And, not unimportantly, we think, you will receive a training budget, so that you can continue to develop yourself. This gives you the opportunity to grow, within our company or beyond.
