JOB TITLE: Wellness Trainer

Purpose of Job:
The primary purpose of your job position is to provide a variety of group exercise programming in conjunction with results from Wellness assessments, evaluations and other recommendations in accordance with our established procedures, federal, state and local and community regulations and guidelines as may be directed by your supervisors.

Your job description outlines the general duties as well as establishes the method for performing other duties as assigned by a Director, Vice President or President.

Administrative Functions:
Maintain a good work rapport with inter-departmental personnel.
Assist in planning, developing, organizing and implementing departmental activities as directed.
Assist in coordinating departmental service with other departments.
Adhere to all WHV policies and procedures.
Perform administrative duties such as: filing, completing forms, reading memos and attend meetings, as directed.
Create and maintain a good customer service environment.
Attends monthly town hall meetings as scheduled.
Training/In-Service Attendance:
Attend and participate in all required in-services and educational classes.
Attend and participate in workshops, seminars and coursework, as directed.
Safety and Sanitation:
Follow and establish safety procedures and precautions when performing the aspects of your job.
Report all injuries immediately to your supervisor.
Lift using proper technique. Assist others when directed.
Report all unsafe and hazardous conditions and equipment to your supervisor.
Maintain a work area that is clean and hazard free.
Follow all infection control procedures as they apply.
Know and follow fire and disaster plans.
Use personal protective equipment when performing tasks that might involve infectious materials.
Equipment and Supply Usage:
Report all equipment malfunctions or breakdowns immediately.
Report low or depleted supplies to the appropriate person.
Use equipment for its intended purpose.
Follow correct official procedures when using equipment.
Resident Rights:
Maintain the confidentiality of resident information.
Handle all resident property with respect.
Knock before entering into a resident’s room or dwelling.
Ensure that residents are treated fairly and with respect allowing for individuality and privacy.
Uphold the residents’ civil rights.
Regulatory Compliance:
Follow all OSHA, CDC guidelines.
Review book of Material Safety Data Sheets prior to working with any chemicals.
Treat all team members fairly and equally without regard to race, color, creed, national origin, age, sex, religion, handicap or marital status.
Adhere to all local, state or federal regulations as they apply.
Completes annual compliance training and exhibits behavior as set forth by the code of conduct in the performance of their duties.
Abides by White Horse Village’s code of conduct in the performance of their duties.
Committee Function:
Serve on committees as assigned.
When serving on a committee, participate to the fullest of your ability.
Wellness Trainer Administrative Duties:
o Provide residents with new participant materials prior to beginning a Wellness Center program.
o Assist Wellness Manager with Wellness Assessments as directed.
o Provide new participants with an orientation to the Wellness Center.
o Maintain resident records to ensure effective communication among staff.
o Maintain proper documentation of participant progress and incidents.
o Assist Wellness Manager in implementing program modifications as necessary.
o Report all observed changes in participants’ medical conditions and physical ability to the Wellness Coordinator.
o Maintain proper documentation of completed operational duties.
o Assist Wellness Manager with creating and supporting wellness programs and services. (Creating flyers, data spreadsheets, group exercise, calendars and content for Wellness University).
o Complete all other tasks as assigned.
Wellness Trainer Practical Duties:
o Be an example of Wellness to the residents and staff.
o Provide motivation, encouragement and support to residents and staff with regard to all aspects of Wellness.
o Provide general instruction on all equipment as well as safe and effective independent exercise technique.
o Adhere to the established standard orientation for all equipment use.
o Provide safe and effective group exercise programming according to functional abilities of all participants.
o When medical conditions present a safety risk to a participant’s exercise participation, assist participants in seeking appropriate medical consultation.
o Adhere to the established standard orientation for all equipment use.
Wellness Trainer Practical Duties (con’t.):
o Correct participants’ body alignment and exercise technique while they are using equipment and performing other exercises; keep residents safe on all equipment and with all activities.
o Perform restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed within the ability of the Wellness Center.
o Report participant injuries promptly.
o Activate emergency response according to policies and procedures.
o Follow established policies concerning exposure to and clean up of blood/body fluids.
o Answer resident calls and requests promptly; provide professional and accurate responses to all questions.
o Assist residents to walk with or without assistive devices as instructed by medical orders and according to established policies and procedures.
o Assist and provide interested residents with initial safe and effective exercise prescription and instruction according to medical conditions, changes thereof. Wellness Assessment results and personal goals.
o Assist with care of residents as directed by the Wellness Coordinator.
Wellness Trainer Facility and Maintenance Duties:
o Perform and document routine equipment checks and report deficiencies to the Wellness Coordinator promptly.
o Perform routine inspections of all areas of the Wellness Center and report deficiencies to Housekeeping or Properties and Facilities departments as necessary.
o Change linens after every user and disinfect equipment; notify the Housekeeping department when supplies are low.
o Perform all other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Sits, stands, bends, stoops, lifts, pushes, pulls, squats, walks, and moves intermittently during working hours.
Is subject to frequent interruptions.
Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, governmental agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
Communicates with all staff, visitors and residents.
On occasion works beyond normal working hours, evenings, nights, and on weekends and holidays.
Attends and participates in continuing educational programs, as directed.
May be required to work on shifts other than the one for which hired.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
High School graduate.
Personal Training certificate.
Group Exercise certificate
CPR/AED certificate
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, other department directors, and the general public.
Must be knowledgeable of guidelines pertaining to retirement community administrative procedures.
Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel as well as be willing to handle residents based on what ever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.
Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions from supervisor and residents.
Must possess ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing proper administrative procedures and maintaining a sound operation.
Maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and the appearance of the office by regular inspections and appropriate follow-up actions.
Must be able to relate information concerning resident’s condition if asked.
Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, family members, physicians, other department directors, government agencies/personnel, and support agencies.
Must be able to work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the community.
Must be able to work extended hours, as necessary.
Should be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
Must have a current drivers license.
