Job Description

Job Location: Preble Street - PORTLAND, ME 04101Elena’s Way, a Preble Street Wellness Shelter, provides shelter and intensive services to 40 individuals experiencing homelessness and complex physical and mental health needs, in a 24-hour trauma-informed environment grounded in social work and medical best practices.
A first shift Caseworker position is currently available in this service-inclusive, client-centered shelter program. As part of the team providing comprehensive services to individuals accessing the Wellness Shelter, Elena’s Way Caseworkers support clients in achieving positive outcomes by providing direct services as well as housing-related and case management services. Caseworkers also work with the Street Outreach Collaborative, delivering meals and engaging in outreach activities with people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in our community, as needed to support the program.
The schedule for this 1st shift position is Friday-Monday, 8 am – 6:30 pm.

Qualifications

Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study and experience providing direct services to people experiencing homelessness, or comparable combination of education and relevant experience.
Also required are an understanding of and alignment with Preble Street’s mission, positive regard for individuals accessing services for homelessness and poverty, and a commitment to providing low-barrier services, as well as strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis intervention skills, familiarity with community resources, strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain documentation of services, ability to work with and maintain professional boundaries with diverse populations, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
Compensation & Benefits
The hourly rate of pay for this full-time (40 hours/week) position is $23.82 per hour, plus a shift differential of
$1.00 per hour for all hours actually worked between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm.
